And you just know that the GQP is salivating and jacking it at the thought of banning unions entirely when they take over everything a couple years from now.

So if this unionization effort keeps rolling on there won't be like five Starbucks within a two block radius

Like the democrats have been a great friend to unions since they became neoliberal in the 80s

The stupidest part of this entire story is the overflowing grease trap thing.

Not sure how farking hard it is to either:
1. Clean it or
2. Pick up the phone and call the grease trap cleaning service which would be out within twenty four hours.

Either way, it was the manager's responsibility to make sure it happened.

Seattle didn't need Hoffa...they had my great uncle Archie's bud, Jimmy's predecessor, Dave Beck. Dave ran things, did his time standing on his head, lived to be 99 & is interred with a buncha my relatives in Cavalry Cemetery....not forever mixed into the Foundation of the RenCen.

The only time Starbucks closes stores is when they're acquiring a new location with a drive-thru near a non-drive-thru location.

/I don't work for Starbucks, but I have a good finger on the pulse of their ops as far as property is concerned.

Rapmaster2000: Ithaca's not a big college town.

Came here to say this. That location specifically- no business survives for that long in Cornell's Collegetown. The landlords there don't keep up their properties and charge astronomical rents.

That, and everyone just gets coffee from CTB (which I guess is now closed as well for a building redo)  or on campus anyway. I'm surprised that Starbucks lasted as long as it did there.

Any new store they open is going to be aggressively unionized.

I graduated from Cornell in 2005. I can't recall if there was a Starbucks anywhere outside the big mall at that point. In the city's downtown and near campus, there were a number of excellent independent coffee shops; I hear several have closed over the last decade.

Incorrect:  they also close stores when their employees unionize, evidently.

Or you can inexplicably believe Starbucks' side of the story, for some idiotic reason.

My point was that I don't believe them. Corp totally closed down a non-rockstar, perhaps even problem child, location because they went union.

Unless you think I don't believe that the store is actally closed, which is some serious flat-earth dinosaurs are fake bs.

Open your own coffee shop and rejoice that you ran Starbucks out of town.
Now do Walmart.

2022-06-05 8:18:09 PM
yea, that isn't going to work.  While you can commit suicide to avoid unionization.  the NLRB will be issuing hefty fines and there will likely never be able to open another Starbucks in the area for a long time

Well considering apparently the location was so pathetic they couldn't even bother to clean out a grease trap properly (something you should literally do EVERY SINGLE NIGHT) and then instead of cleaning it up... went on strike(?!?!?!?!?!)... I'm going to guess they probably couldn't do a lot of other things correctly either.

We didn't have a grease trap at Sbux when I worked there. We did have sewage drain traps we had to dismantle and clean with "bathroom" cleaner like once a week? Those had milk products built up in it, and attracted flies like 💩

now bear with me here

or Starbucks is lying.

(Also, they did not go on strike, did they? they simply formed a union. These are different things.)

Workers at the College Ave. location previously went on a one-day strike in April for what the union says were unsafe working conditions "a waste emergency caused by the overflowing grease trap."

our strike showed them what power we have," Benjamin South, an employee at the College Ave. location, said in a statement.

What part of that do you NOT understand?

I didn't just pull words out of my butt and plop them down.  I, gasp, read the article!  Perhaps you should read the article before sounding like an idiot.

When I managed a restaurant we had a plumbing company on speed dial.  Any time we had an issue they would come out within an hour or two of when we called, and yes, they managed our grease trap, since it was under-grade in the parking lot under a manhole cover.  It's just a basic cost of doing business.

And there's no faster way to fail a health inspection than to have plumbing issues.  Even something like a dish machine that wasn't sanitizing or failing refrigerator/freezer they would give you the option of correcting immediately and scheduling a follow-up inspection (although I never had a major refrigeration issue, so I can't say what would happen if they were REALLY bad).  But if you had plumbing backups, you were getting a closed sign slapped on the door until they could come back and verify that the issue was fixed.  As it should be.  If you can't dispose of waste water, you can't actually CLEAN and SANITIZE anything.

Their money shot comes (pardon the pun) from banning every union except the police unions.

Mr Person Of Means recalls the horrors of sharing a blanket at a Nazi death camp and compares it to how he treats his workers but then claims workers unionizing is assaulting his business while punishing workers for wanting better conditions via unionizing........I think Schultz is confused as to who is wearing the Nazi uniform in his analogy.
