So they determined it would affect too many white people?

The mining company still hopes to receive permission to mine near the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp.

Poor white trash is the only thing you will find for 50 miles in any direction from either swamp entrance. It is the heart and soul of the Klan, although Waycross does have a substantial Black population that hasn't escaped yet.

I shot Pogo's ugly mug on that damned Waycross water tower repeatedly with my potato cannon, along with the head of whichever white bastard has a statue downtown. I also may or may not have fired a potato clean through the side of a trailer up there but I cannot discuss that further.

It would definitely turn wetlands into drylands.

"Mining on the doorstep of a rare ecological treasure like Georgia's Okefenokee Swamp defies common sense," Kelly Moser, an attorney for the Southern Environmental Law Center ... "

Well, Kelly Moser, I suppose that assertion would depend on the product being mined. If there is an essential mineral for modern humans in that location, then I don't think alligators, bald eagles, and "traditional" cultures are worth preserving.

But the agency declared in 2020 it no longer had that authority after regulatory rollbacks under then-President Donald Trump narrowed the types of waterways qualifying for protection under the Clean Water Act.

No surprises there.

Wait so Trump actually tried to drain the swamp?
I thought it was a metaphor.

They're mining for titanium and zirconium. Now, titanium I'll admit is a bit tough to find, but zirconium... That stuff is everywhere.

If that were to happen, then what would become of the Legion of Dumb headquarters?

But being one of the only dark night skies in the east coast, it gets a lot of affluent visitors.

A federal agency has delivered a big setback to a company's controversial plan to mine near the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp and its vast wildlife refuge.

DeSantis will be giving an impassioned speech decrying "radical liberal bureaucrats," burdensome regulations, and demanding the company be allowed to mine within the wildlife refuge itself by tomorrow. He will be surrounded by listless school-aged children holding up signs (several held upside down) that say "Drain the Swamp!"

Nobody lives there.

This has been going on for 30 years or more. Depending on how they mine the ridge it could very well cause a leak that would be irreversible. The swamp would then be a mass of dried peat that would burn forever.

Yulee is the new richer WhiPePo escape camp from Duval County and that's just outside of the 50 mile mark.

Yellow Flies, a sort of hyper-aggressive deer fly that will literally bite CHUNKS out of you. Then there's the damn no-see-ums, ticks, and meth heads...

That may apply to Big Gum (adjacent), but most of the Ogre-fen-ogre sits on the Georgia Side.

Most draught years it already is. The swamp still has severe scars and damage from the last time and that was over a decade ago.

I hope it stays untouched.  Places like that should be protected all over the world.  We have already done enough harm to environment.  Think of the children!
