he's -47 in TD/INT.  why the hell is he in the Hall?  (173 to 220).

...because it's been 50 years and he's still a household name? It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Most Statistically Impressive Athletes. His best years were around the time of the AFL/NFL merger and he was ubiquitous in the media, right? Won one of the first Super Bowls? I know all this and the guy retired 10 years before I was born. He's an icon.

I believe the rationale of HoF voters is "can you tell the story of the game without this person?"

Yeah, Eli is probably going to be in the HoF, but I just wanted to say that the New York Giants really should induct Tom Brady into their ring of honor, since he won them two Super Bowls.

so you are banging the drum to put Pat Tillman and Colin Kaepernick in?  You cannot tell the story of the game without those two.

This was a solid counterpoint, but I do not think they should be enshrined as members, despite their off-the-field contributions. I'm all for seeing their memorabilia in Canton in various exhibits.

christ by that logic - and we've all heard that argument - even Tim Tebow arguably has a case.

And now I'm chuckling. Even a slippery slope of allowing marginal candidates to be elected... no. Just no.

What gets me is Nanath got in about 7 years after he retired but a guy like Ken Stabler needed decades (and after his death) in spite of all the big games he was in.
