I heard it's being bundled with Half-Life 3.

Originally, I had put down $5 for the Steam Deck. But then I saw how big it was, that at launch it still didn't support many games, and that the fan stayed on almost always & was loud. That's when I decided to cancel my reserve spot in hopes that Valve makes a second generation one which fixes these issues.

I'm waiting on the third generation enhanced model, the Steaming Upper Decker.

I would love the Steam Deck being successful, even if I am not interested in it personally.

But it being released half-baked really has me worried people will be turned off by it and not come back.

Two of those issues were fixed in Q1. I don't know if next year's model will be smaller - but how small do you expect a full-featured PC capable of playing AAA games to be?

Not completely sure I'll buy one (wait list is fearsome) but liking what I'm seeing on how SteamOS / Proton / etc. is maturing. (Work faster, minions!) Uncertain how long until Valve decides to provide installer, so keeping an eye on HoloISO to give it a spin after a little more bake time.

My Steam Deck reservation has already been pushed back to Q3, so I'll probably get it sometime next year.

I got mine Q2 and have had zero problems.  Fan is quiet, it wasn't all fans that had that issue, only some.  I got it mainly for PS2 emulation but I also started playing 'Dying Light' as I didn't get a chance to play that at launch, and it runs great.  Valve is constantly pushing out updates for this thing and it's significantly better now than it was 2 months ago.

No I believe a Steam Deck Docking Station is what can be found in that dimly-lit sauna Downtown.

Which version did you get? I've heard the fan issue is mostly happening on the two NVMe models, though I can't verify.  I have two acquaintances that each have one; one has the low model and one the high.  Haven't checked in with the friend with the high yet but got to play a bit on the low model and he had zero issues as well.  His only real complaint (beyond just griping) is that there were a couple of apps or games that were missing their dependencies and thus not functional.  But I don't have those specifics either.

I got the 256GB version.  I was kinda nervous after reading the reddit threads and hearing the fan complaints, but was pleasantly when mine was dead quiet.  I haven't ran into very many issues, and the small ones I did notice got patched pretty fast.  It's a pretty sweet device.
