(Big Think)   Particle physics could really destroy us, but not until we reach tens of millions of times the energies at the LHC   ( divider line

Particle physics won't have the opportunity, basic chemistry will destroy us first.

Be polite walk on the right: leeksfromchichis: TheMysteriousStranger: leeksfromchichis: Particle physics can already destroy us with a little uranium

That is nuclear physics. Particle physics works is about things that are more fundamental.

What do they collide in CERN?

they have a 3 or 5 or 7 or 8 mile tunnel loop, walls lined with magnets, they accellerate atoms through multiple loops before engaging more magnets to make the atoms collide, so they can record the subatomic particles that appear when they smash into each other at nearly the speed of light

/a boson walks into a church and the loser says "we don't allow bosons in here" so the boson says "without me there'd be no mass!"

That's what I thought but
apparently even smaller stuff too.

I thought they got several trillion degree plasma by using nuclei collisions
