[He describes a Valley with a priestly sect called the Corners because they eat a radioactive blue corn.] ...at the age of puberty, the mark of the Corner can be perceived: a look of dreamy despair, the look of a hungry ghosts in time of famine, but a noble resignation that transcends the hunger.

found in Palenque facing east to west, "which would symbolize the birth of the maize plant with the first rays of the sun,"

I thought the sun only rose in the west in Australia.

I can find no mention of how big this head is. Size  of an apple? human torso?

Some other coverage:

The sculpture, originally conceived as a severed head, would have been placed by the Maya on a tripod (evidenced by the discovery of a ceramic tripod) and was positioned in an east-west orientation to symbolise the birth of the corn plant with the first rays of the sun.

offering that was placed on a floor pond. and stuccoed walls -approximately one meter wide by three meters long-, to emulate the entrance of this god to the underworld, in an aquatic environment.
The archaeologists detail that the stuccoed head - with a maximum length and width of 45 and 16 centimeters, respectively, and 22 centimeters in height

So, it seems to be a large human sized head.

Zoom in on the scale bar and it says 13 cm. I think each of those bars is 2cm long and the total length of the thing is 15 cm.

You're right except I read it as 15cm.

those scale bars with points can be used to indicate "north". meaning here if the head was upright it would be facing west.

It looked so much like a 3 I thought they were labelling the second to last mark. Makes much more sense that it's a 5. Anyway, would have helped to chuck a banana in those pictures.
