That looks pretty good - and something we could absolutely make at home.. I'm guessing refried beans with the sauce in the first layer?

Ah, so this is Taco Bell's version of New Coke.

Remove a menu item and then bring it back to skyrocketing new sales figures.

Coca-Cola insists it wasn't all a marketing scheme from the beginning... that it was just a happy coincidence. I'm sure Taco Bell will claim the same thing.

Sure Jan.

And all the usual suspects will fall for it. People are just lemmings walking upright.

"Taco Bell introduced the item in 1985 and originally called it the "Pizzazz Pizza.""

Piss-ass pizza.

Seems appropriate.

The hell did you run out of?  Other than the pizza sauce, it's five of the same eight ingredients you use in everything else.

2022-05-31 4:34:36 PM
How can they run out of Mexican Pizzas?  They're just the regular ingredients that go into everything else they make but stacked in a different order.

i suspect its the round flat shells.  the tostada's were also discontinued at the same time back in 2020.  those 2 things were the only things using those round hard shells.

It's just nachos on a tostada.

Get the fkkn nachos.

Or, here's a thought... stay the fk away from Taco Bell!

Del Taco is good stuff, much better than Taco Bell and really affordable.

The only thing they could "run out of" are the boxes to put them in. Other than that, the whole menu is like 7 ingredients put together in slightly
different ways.

Over all I prefer Del Taco.  However, I do love the Taco Bell "meat".   I know it's wrong.  Let me have this.

2022-05-31 4:53:54 PM
It's really just a quesadilla with stuff on it. That's all. It takes longer, costs more, and takes more energy to go get one then to just make one.

I would guess that there's a lot of "loss" due to breakage of the shells.

God forbid you get served a mexican pizza on a broken tostada shell.

Then you'd have NACHOS!

Yah, I'm guessing they've run out of boxes. They went w/this retro 'when we first introduced this item' theme, and I'm sure that is the hold up here.

As others point out, the damn item consists of things already on the menu. IDK, 'artificial scarcity' isn't beyond the realm of possibility as well.

My daughter says she's overjoyed at it being out.  Says the issue is where the manufacture the shells; they didn't anticipate it being this big.

Del Taco is only in 16 or 17 states. Maybe find a local mom and pop taqueria? Most cities have more than one.

I don't follow cultural appropriation stuff much.

And being a white guy, I should probably do more listening than talking about it.

But I feel like Italians and Mexicans should both be upset by this product.

I'd rather get the taco truck tacos

he is closer
actually uses good ingredients
and adds extra tortillas, because yes, once you finish one taco over the extra tortilla, another taco

so I buy 4, and end up eating 8*

Whoever set up that web sewer is playing silly buggers, because it works fine if you use https.  I think the verifier is getting confused because the response when trying http is "HTTP/1.1 301 moved permanently" , a Location: header saying "same URL but in https" and libcurl or whatever hasn't been called with the "follow 301" option enabled.  Or it's the # doing something dumb; I've had that happen on my personal site but it doesn't happen with pickyweedia.

When the link verifier does its thing, its User-Agent is "Mozilla/5.0 (Fark link verification thingie; see fark.com/farq/tech)".  This can cause problems if the people who set up the server were not very bright.

It's basically a quesadilla, but you pan-fry the tortilla shell in a little oil till it's lightly browned and crisp. We put a layer of refried beans, taco meat & onion, a little bit of cheese and salsa on the inside. Then top with second shell and cover with queso cheese. Bake till it melts, cover with lettuce, tomatoes and green onion.

or you could go to a place with a population above 75 and get actual tacos and or actual pizza

2022-05-31 6:41:22 PM
First, everyone saying "it's the same ingredients they already have" are wrong. They do not use the flat tostadas for anything except the Mexican Pizza. That's almost certainly the item they're running out of.

Second, I'm pissed because I use the app and rewards program, and they had me opt-in for a "special free item" months ago, which turned out to be the Mexican Pizza, only when the thing was returned to the menu I was unable to find ANY Taco Bell across 1/3 of the state who would honor the Reward and give me a free one. Every single restaurant marked the Mexican Pizza as "unavailable" almost immediately for that Reward, though if you walked in you could order one (and not get it free because you aren't using the app). They did this because they didn't want to deal with the hassle of making a rush of Mexican Pizzas for free.

So the Reward is expiring today, and it was never able to be redeemed. I'm pissed about that. It's pretty rude to offer a free item for loyalty Rewards and then not make good on it when the time comes, and it's not corporate's fault-- It's all the local store owners/managers doing this.

They won't. People have been begging for decades. They don't want to stock the buns, both because of the extra cost/storage space and because they want to seem like the "alternative" to all the burger and roast beef joints.

I'd say probably the tostadas. As far as I can recall nothing else on the menu right now uses them and was probably the primary reason for removing the Mexican Pizza originally.
