Looks like the NRA's influence doesn't extend north of the border.
Gun control in the US will never pass because our politicians are completely captured.

Australia after Port Arthur, then New Zealand after Christchurch, now Canada apparently pre-emptively. Superbly played Canada, get it done before the bodies pile up and not after, that's top work.

Canadians have the right to self defense, certainly.  But a right to 'bear arms' no.  Thank god.

In 1989 14 young women were murdered at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal by an antifeminist using a semi auto.  A lot of our gun restrictions were born from that.  The latest round modernizes that.  And about time.

There's a lot of different shiat going on here in the US that people are bent out of shape and on edge about for various reasons but IMO if the government started banning guns then that would be what kicks off a 'civil war'.

I'm not necessarily saying it would be justified, just that that would be the catalyst.

Sure a lot of people will comply but you, me, and everyone else knows that the "cold dead hands" faction is absolutely not going to just give in.

I guess if you're going to allow your government to seize their citizens bank accounts, for perfectly legal activities, without a court In order, you're committed to a path and this is the next logical step.

Good luck.

I love you Canada.

Every loser in the whole world needs a friend who will never leave, will seldom judge, but will give you a big frown when he sees you screwing up yet again. Canada certainly is not perfect, but Canada seldom inflicts its shortcomings on neighbors and others. It resolves its own problems and keeps up with the world.

I heard recently that Canada has been approached by China to get some rapprochement going... with the US. Sometimes you can't deal with the US directly, but you can go to the US stable wingman and get some messages across that might make the world better.

I raise a glass to you Canada. You are giving a hint to America on how it SHOULD be done. Not a criticism, just a show of how to act like a grownup. Can America take the hint?  Probably not. But maybe after this all happens another 30 times, Canada can say, "Had enough, eh? Can you take the hint?"

Thanks for showing the way, Canada. I see what you did there.

This action is from 2 years ago. There was a 2 year amnesty stating Canadians must be in compliance by April 2022.

The list is high so as to cover all the variants of the various rifles/handguns. Note that Canada already has different types of licenses to restrict many types of firearms.

As noted in the CBC article, 70-99% of guns used in criminal activity come from the US. So while strict control of legal guns in Canada is admirable, better control at our border would be more effective.

I never understood what point the "this scary-looking gun is the exact same weapon as this practical-looking gun" argument was trying to make.

How many terrorists mow people down with the practical-looking version?  They go for the scary-looking version because it's scary-looking.  Optics are important when your goal is to cause fear and chaos, or if you are getting the gun to make yourself feel cool and powerful but have no legitimate use for it.

Because if they're "exactly the same weapon" and the difference is purely cosmetic, then banning the cosmetic choices that are highly preferred by terrorists and criminals literally won't affect anyone who has a legitimate use for the weapon.  And anyone who insists "b-b-but it won't make a difference!" in an attempt to keep the assault-glamor version on the market are also admitting that there is something beyond mechanical functionality that makes people want that particular style.

I'm just going to keep posting this link so I don't have to type the whole thing over and over again. https://dpoisn.com/covid19

This country has allowed the misinterpretation of the 2nd amendment to get completely out of control.  It's clear and obvious that it has been misinterpreted because lobbying orgs like the NRA pay a lot of money to keep it that way.

It's time to ban the NRA.  Time to make their donations illegal, as they should be from terrorist organizations.  And it's time to revisit the 2nd amendment.

Remember ten or fifteen years ago when there was going to be some kind of "million gun owners" march on Washington, where a bunch of gun nuts were going to proudly march into the city displaying their guns, and a couple days before cops arrested the organizers and the whole movement collectively shiat its pants and ran away? Most of the cold dead hands crowd are cowards (hence why they're so obsessed with guns), and authoritarian bootlickers, and they'll say, "Yes sir, right away sir" when told to give their toys up. The rest of them can find out what having cold dead hands is like.
