That was well-written and entertaining.

No matter what the hobby is, someone will pose, "How about we make it a sweaty painful gut-wrenching competition with some petty prize, but the real thrill will be getting to grind your opponents' faces in the dirt while shrieking, 'I am superior!'?"

IOW, no matter how simple, pleasant, friendly and fun an activity is, some jerks will make it a weapon.

You really put the pieces together for us

Except in this case there doesn't seem to be anyone acting like a jerk.

A lot of things are like that, but we don't have to participate with the crazies.

Don't get too worked up about it. Puzzlers are pretty benign. The puzzle groups I'm in are the most wholesome places on this godforsaken internet.

As far as hobbies go, I think it wouldn't be a terrible idea to have more people gravitating towards non-violent hobbies and the non-lethal accessories that come with them.

Sounds like a lot of fun for the whole family. Or maybe not for the family. Maybe also not that much fun, after all.

That was an enjoyable read. I have enjoyed puzzling before the pandemic, because I'm hard care nerd like that.

Fun read. Thanks for the link, Subby.

I've loved jigsaw puzzles since I was a kid. In the spring of 2020, I was making lots of overtime pay and decided to get myself a wooden jigsaw puzzle. I had to wait 2 months for it because the company was swamped with orders. Anyway, I got hooked. The cuts are intricate and fun and include whimsies and sometimes alternate solutions (one Liberty puzzle contains pieces that can be used to build a working ferris wheel). The tactile sensation of the wooden pieces is more enjoyable, and the laser-cut puzzles smell wonderful. It's hard to go back to grid-cut cardboard after you've tried a wooden puzzle. Here's the latest one.

Came here to say something along those lines. That sh*t is exhausting. Do we need to compete about every single thing?

Jigslamming - go to any lively Celtic music gig - the Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, the Corrs - and combine the horizontal movement of slam dancing with the vertical knees and elbows of the jig.  If you can't find a suitable concert, just go to O'Connor's Irish Pub or any suitable stripmall "Irish bar" and start Jigslamming to whatever's on the jukebox.
