I can't speak to history, but I would argue that cops have become cowards, enabled to be cowards, and celebrated as cowards. The more they are given that removes them any danger, the more they use those things out of cowardice.  The very idea of police has become corrupted more and more.

I don't know, a bunch of cops waiting around for an hour while there was an armed 18 year old in a school seems undeniably cowardly.  I mean, they didn't do nothing, they stopped random people from going in there to get the kids out.

It's basic instinct to accept that a child's life is worth more than an adult's.  What's the point of even having cops if they're not going to even try to stop somebody from killing children?  We'll find other ways to keep minorities down.

It's something that I always suspected, but 7 years ago I had a real wakeup call on just how bad it had gotten.  I live in St. Louis, at the time I lived 2 blocks away from where the next young black man got killed by a cop in the wake of Michael Brown.  The guy in my neighborhood shot at an off duty cop and got killed.  It wasn't the incident that bothered me, it was how they handled the protests.

Full riot gear to handle a crowd of people venting their frustration?  An MRAP on Grand Blvd?  You bet they put their own safety over deescalating the situation.  I watched a formation of cops banging their shields with their batons and marching down my street.  I was 7 stories up, I'm Irish white and it was still intimidating.

At the same time there were images coming out of Ferguson of cops waving assault rifles and submachine guns at unarmed protesters, hell one of my coworkers called in one day because as she was walking out the door the cops told her to go back inside and there was a tear gas canister on her front lawn.

Eventually the Missouri National guard got called in.  Guess what?  Soldiers trained primarily to kill people in a war did a better job at keeping the peace than the supposed pros.  What was the difference?  They took modest risks with their own well being.  Their presence was obvious, it's hard to miss a bunch of Humvees and young men in uniform, but their weapons were slung/holstered and they were walking in the crowds.

They had everything to fear that the cops did, but they reacted like adults.  They dealt with the troublemakers throwing bricks into windows and what not, but left the 99.9% of peaceful protestors alone.  Most of the protesters didn't like the trouble makers either, those guys were just using the protest as cover to commit crimes.

Look, stop and think about the Jedi for a minute.  They're a cult of sexless assholes who kidnap children and turn them into fanatical lightsaber wielding child soldiers.  You think they're the good guys?  What did they do about slavery in the republic?  Ask Anakin Skywalker, he's doing exactly what the Jedi trained him to do there.  Who put that lightsaber in his hand?

Now look at the empire.  No slavery, they built a Death Star to blow up Jar Jar's home world... they even found jobs for that slave clone army the Jedi created.  I mean sure, they kinda look line Nazis, but other than fashion choices they're clearly the good guys.

Soldiers have clear rules of engagement and will suffer dire consequences if they violate those rules.  Cops murder innocent people for no reason whatsoever and nothing happens.  That's the difference.

Exactly, discipline.  They weren't trained for the situation they were in, but they were told what they had to do and they did it.

Cops presumably are trained for these situations.  They were similarly told what to do by civilian authority and they acted like cowards.  They brought out their biggest guns and waved them around at frustrated civilians because they put their own well being over doing their jobs.

We've been letting them get away with that for so long due to a combination of bootlickers, politicians and pundits who want to sound like they're tough on crime but are really just pandering to racists.

I mean the rebels won in the original trilogy... and what did they do with that victory?  Not a god damned thing, and they found themselves being rebels again a decade later.

No order, no peace, no justice etc... they're just like "hey we took down the empire!", but apparently didn't bother to bring another functional government to replace it with.

I'm usually all for team scrappy underdog, they won in this case, but that galaxy far far away was worse off for it.  How do you think the First Order came about?  The rebels sucked at actually governing.

I mean, even Luke gave up when his nephew became emo Darth Vader, and didn't lift a finger when the First order destroyed a bunch of worlds.

Face it, the Jedi are the bad guys.

No pen was recovered from the scene, and Green testified it exploded into pieces when she grabbed Fraser's hand.

Uh huh, I totally believe that.

Do you know how much pressure it takes to break one of those Bic Cristal pens into shards? At lot. More than any human hand could do just by grabbing another person's hand. And even if you break it, it's in shards that you can find and the actual ink cartridge insert inside the pen is made of a flexible plastic that doesn't "explode" into dust.

You'd be able to find pieces of a pen. A pen that "exploded" would leave the ink smeared all over the palm of the hand holding it. The metal bits (the socket that holds the roller ball or ballpoint) would be there. You'd find the cap to the pen.

This cop should be straight-up fired for lying in such a stupid manner. Not suspension and training - FIRED.

The real basis for the rage that I can understand is one guy being ticketed for something that didn't happen, and probably being ticketed for something the cop couldn't and didn't even see happen. I sympathize with the man - people are sick and god-damned tired of cops generating revenue by stealing from them.

Details aren't given, but two people tried to merge. Two cars *MAYBE* scraped together - the black guy here claims they didn't scrape and there was no damage to his vehicle, so at worse maybe they bumped and there is no damage done. The article doesn't come right out and say if police directly witnessed this initial encounter - only that they made a traffic stop and that there was "road rage" (two people arguing).

This guy is right to be entirely pissed off. Sure, there is probably one person at fault who should be yielding at a merge, but in this case there is no damage to vehicles. The guy was livid that he was being ticketed for something that no one can even point to it causing any damage, and yeah, he has a right to be agitated and claim that he didn't hit anybody because it's possible he didn't.

Instead, a cop has to escalate things into generating revenue. Rather than talk to both of them and try to get them to behave like stereotypical Canadians ("Oh, sorry about that. Yeah, I'm sorry. Totally sorry that happened.") and saying OK, no one is hurt so let's get on our way and drive safely today, they had to issue a ticket. The ticket appeared to happen when the black guy demonstrated contempt of cop by getting angry he was being singled out to have some money stolen from him.

Police need to stop being total pieces of shiat like this if they want to have their job respected.
