"...parent with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the parent in the leg."

I thought all of the talking points from the gun lobby were bad enough: fewer doors, armed teachers, militarized school campuses.  Now, they are literally shooting themselves in the foot.

We clearly need more guns.

"According to police, the parent, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His injury was not serious."

Look at that, another White guy in a school shooting leaving alive.

Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself.

I was under the impression guns were supposed to be drop-safe. So, did they mean "Dropped his gun and, in his fumbling attempts to catch it, discharged it"? Maybe it was a very old gun that doesn't meet current safety standards?

Probably carried it around with a round chambered and the safety off "just in case".

Soon, people will volunteer to be in a war zone to get away to relative peace from the terror of living in American society.

Also, leaving aside the fact that he wasn't supposed to have it inside the school anyhow, why the fark was he doing anything with it where he could drop it?  It was concealed, so was he taking it out of the holster for some reason? Was it just tucked into his waistband and slipped at the worst time possible?

I take my mini leather man off my keychain if I enter the grounds of my sons school.  What fool thinks anything overrides the "no weapons in a freaking school zone" rule

/Yes, I am painfully aware of how useless the rule is.
//local prosecutors need to step it up with every violation

It's funny because the kids were still traumatized by the gunfire and lockdown.

No wait, not funny.  What's the other thing?

Mostly this.

There are a couple manufacturers that make the drop round won't discharge claim.  Hell.... there are a couple manufacturers that insurance believes them to the point they if you are an armed security business, that request a round in the chamber  UT only with that manufacturers.

Everyone thinks "junk gun" when they hear stuff like this, but even the pre series 80 Colt 1911 models were notorious for going bang if you dropped them while a round was chambered.  My question is WTF was he doing playing with his gun in a school?

No decent modern firearm should go off from "dropping" it.  Any decent concealed carry holster should have a trigger block or trigger lock-out, nor will it just "fall out."  Even then, when I have to be a non-uniformed discreet armed courier, I don't chamber a round. You can rack the slide in a fraction of a slide.  With enough practice, you can do it while you're drawing.

55 years old and still playing with his goddamn guns.  In a school.

I'd take that gun back to the gun store.  "I want a deadly pistol.  This thing only wounded me.  Of course, I'm mad.  You said it was deadly. I should be dead!"

At least an accidental discharge in a school hit the right guy.

People can't be trusted to navigate a 4-way stop. What makes anyone think they can be trusted with firearms?

Why the hell, in a school, was the gun in his hand to start with? TFA says he had a Concealed Carry Permit... That doesn't allow one carry a gun into a 'No Guns Allowed' area and pull the damn thing out voids the "Concealed Carry"

/ make him a felon and void his right to carry arms at all
// remove his hands and make any kind of carry impossible
/// Remove his brain (minor surgery, it seems) and put him in a circus to laugh at.

I don't believe Texas has (or at least enforces) no-gun zones.

This is also another example of how stupid carrying a loaded, cocked, no-safety weapon is. When I carry, I carry with a full magazine, nothing chambered, and not cocked. If someone started shooting, my first move would be to find cover. That should be everyone's first move. The amount of time it takes to rack a round home is about 1 second. Feeling like 1 second is just too inconvenient is a level of paranoia I will never have. Maybe 1 in 1000 encounters will that 1 second make a difference. I will trade those odds for the assurance that I know I will never, ever, accidentally discharge my pistol.

Answering the question "What kind of fool carries a firearm around in condition 0?".
