tell her she can invite whoever she wants to her wedding and you'll do the same.

Why do people insist on dragging pets to places where they'll have no idea what's going on and may well be spooked or overstimulated?

If you love dogs, great.  But love them in an appropriate environment.  A wedding ain't one.

I was surprised that Prudie was so accommodating of the LW.

Bottom line, it's her wedding, she can invite who she wants.  But if I were the sister, I'd be insulted.

The LW is saying, hey, we really like these people (not clear how many, but it sounds like a bunch) we just met, so we want to invite them to the wedding, and we want to extend the invitation to the ... let's say people... that they care about, i.e., their pets.  We don't care if the pets will be distracting to most of the guests and won't have a clue what the wedding is actually about, we think it'll be fun.

By comparison, we don't care nearly as much about my sister and the people that she cares about most.  We think that kids would detract from the wedding more than pets would and/or that kids aren't any fun, but we can't/won't explain why we think that.

Not a good look.

Well, it's like going stag for them.  They get a chance to mingle and possibly "hook up" with no consequence.  Also the catering bill is a LOT less.  "Uh, that's right....no booze, and just bring the garbage from your last wedding."

1) It's A Free World.  All You Have To Do Is Fall In Love: Tell her to STFU and GTHOI.  It's your wedding, do what you want.

2) Tell Me Lies, Tell Me Sweet Little Lies: Truth shall set you free.

3) Just Hit The Ball An' Touch 'em All: Yeah, bit of poor etiquette, but it's a bit late now.  I'd try to prep your son, but in the grand scheme of things, it'll just be like having other fans in the same section so hopefully won't be problematic.

4) Mother-In-Law, Mother-In-Law, The Worst Person I Know: At this point, I have to assume she just hates you and I can't see any amount of communication, even overseen by a professional therapist, is gonna fix that.  Now what that does to you perception of the marriage long term, I can't say.  Still KHITBASH isn't a bad idea.

5) Shave His Belly With A Rusty Razor: Messing with my selected music would be grounds to DTMFA in my mind.  However you're not dating them, your friend is.  If they don't see the issue through the fog of love, there ain't a damn thing you're gonna be able to do about it.  Having said that, it was your party, so if you want to tell him to FRO for that, by all means.

6) Money, Get Away: Yeah, impulsive purchasing is a bad sign in terms of mental deterioration.  You probably need to step in.

7) I Know That You Big Boyz Make A Big Noize (Classic): So they just nicknamed you but haven't actually complained about the noise?  That's what I'm gathering.  Are you sure it isn't about load fashion sense?  How do you know?  If they aren't complaining to you or the HOA, STFU and MYOB.

Usually dogs are better behaved and rarely are mistaken for air raid sirens if they didn't get their num nums.

Two of the last three weddings we went to, we were not invited to the ceremony because the venue was too small but we were invited to the reception.
/I considered that a win.

1. Your wedding, invite who you want.
2. No kids means adults can act up and the kids can't see/repeat what happens. This is common to restrict kids (at least from the reception).

Shockingly, most adults prefer to not socialize with children at an adult event. Plus, the kids don't want to go, even a little. That shiat is torture for kids, especially if there are no other kids or any kid shiat to do.

When did weddings become child free? I've never been to one (and I've been to dozens) that didn't allow and include children. Ever heard of ringbearers and flower girls?

Also, why would you subject your kids to a boring dress up event they barely understand? Just to show them off? Do you make them go to sunday school too? It's not the 1890s.

Weddings last about 30 minutes - maybe 50 for a Catholic Mass. The receptions last for hours. Kids LOVE receptions. Food. Cake. Dancing. Silly stuff like tossing the bridal bouquet and the Duck Dance.

These are also singular events. You remember them. Weddings and funerals are the two events in life that extended family gathers. That's why you do the weddings and not just leave the funerals for gatherings.

Home Depot is 100% appropriate to bring your dog. They are dog friendly and openly welcome them. So if you are protesting dogs in Home Depot, you should shop somewhere else, because just like the mask debate, it's their property, and they can do whatever the fark they want, policy-wise.

Well, Fark hates kids, so it was inevitable that someone would immediately chime in to tell you that they don't think kids should exist anywhere.

And I notice they did it immediately after you posted. Actually, I'm amazed that anyone here even cares about the kids in Texas, this place is that much of a toxic kid-hating shiathole.

No you weren't. You literally switched it up to a dog party for childless people. That's not an adult event.

Know what her wedding invitations said, Prudie? "No Dogs or Children Allowed." My friend put that on her Facebook wedding page and it stayed up there for months, until she took it down a little over two weeks ago. Know why she took it down? She started letting in dogs.

There's a BIG difference between not enjoying the company or topic of children (or trolling helicopter parents), and wishing them to die a horrible terrifying death.

True.

Fark's hatred of children is really all about selfishness.

Children consume a lot of time and resources - both of which are better spent taking care of yourself.

Yes? Pretty no one would argue that point.  But, you, know, people could also devote those resources to people that were already alive instead of making more little vanity projects.

The host gets to invite whomever they want.

The invitees get to accept or decline as they please.

If more people treated the invitation as an invitation and just said no thank you, maybe fewer hosts would be selfish brats about their parties.

Or you could just kill yourself. That solves the problem too. If you are so worried about people consuming resources than you should definitely start by discontinuing that usage yourself.
