What the hell is wrong with these people? I've worked in classified environment so I know those people have access to some of the best paper shredders on the planet. Why are you burning stuff? Amateurs.

Turns out the Constitution has fine print saying "No laws apply to rich, white, politically connected conservative men." Who knew?

Uhh, the classified document disposal dropoff is called a "burn bin" for a reason. Shredding can be undone. Ash, not so much.

Also, isn't destroying official Executive Office documents kind of super illegal?

I know, I know, I'm sure Garland will press those charges right after he gets around to those Contempt of Congress charges that he was sent.

It doesn't clog the plumbing either. It really is the best way to make inconvenient evidence disappear.

Burning is next level.  If you're barely holding on to senility, it makes sense to gripe about toilets not taking a ream of paper down per flush.

And you being trash by extension.

How did I try to change the subject? The subject is destroying government property. I'm sure if Meadows was deleting electronic files, he'd use Bleachbit, and if he was destroying phones and hard drives, he'd use a hammer. Fire seems like the right tool for destroying papers. Smarter than flushing them, anyway.

As long as, you know, you don't trip the fire alarm or set off the sprinklers. Which you probably will, if you do it in your office. Worst case, it gets out of control and you burn the building down.

Which is why the pros have incinerators.

From figurative dumpster fire, to literal dumpster fire.  Nothing is surprising anymore.

Then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows burned papers in his office after meeting with a House Republican who was working to challenge the 2020 election, according to testimony the Jan. 6 select committee has heard from one of his former aides.

I just pictured him setting off the smoke detectors and the sprinklers causing millions in damages and still nothing happening to him.

At least he didn't try and flush them down the toilet in a house with 28 fireplaces, that would be REALLY stupid.

If I wanted to get rid of papers I'dapa probably not burn them in front of witnesses because that would make me look super suspect, in front of witnesses.

Walking out of the building with papers would be normal? I mean, maybe for him it wouldn't.

Give someone else the papers then.

1) Incinerating documents meant to be saved would run afoul of law and order.

2) The GOP is the Party of Law and Order

3) Mark Meadows is a member of the GOP

4) Therefore, Mark Meadows did not, and cannot do anything wrong.  FAKE NEWS!

Don't know if you've been paying attention the last few decades but the Boy Scouts got bankrupted because of sexual abuse lawsuits. So this isn't the comparison you were hoping for.

In a perfect world, burning the papers would've set off the smoke alarm, the fire department would've arrived before they were all burned, Meadows and crew would've sensed that they would be found out so they attempt to kill the responding fire crew, but Capital police arrive and shoot Meadows and all the insurrectionist planners dead, which in the end, saves the government the cost of having to go to trial... okay, I can't even take this part seriously...

I'm just waiting for meadow to claim he doesn't remember what was in the documents he burned. Safe bet he will if compelled to testify, safer even than betting that he will be compelled to testify at all.

There has literally NEVER been an instance of someone burning documents where the burner did not recall what he was burning. If the panel does not explicitly make that point, they have failed us (if and when).

Of course, even if they do, several other parties will take over and fail us in their stead.

You are right, burning more than a single page would cause the smoke alarms to go off.  The story sounds kinda far fetched.  New cross shredders make it nearly impossible to put it back together anyway, no need to burn anything.

Trump's candidates keep losing their primaries and his utility to the Republican party is waning.

I wouldn't be surprised if they pull the trigger and let him go down as the fall guy, just so they can rebrand their (unpopular) policies for another iteration, and let MAGA go the way of the Tea Party, Compassionate Conservatism, The Contract with America, etc...

2022-05-26 4:49:34 PM
The select committee has also revealed that Meadows and Perry took steps to conceal some of their communications after the election. For example, in a Dec. 2020 text message exchange the committee included in an April court filing, Perry told Meadows he had "just sent you something on Signal," referring to the encrypted messaging app popular with journalists and government officials.

Holy crap, that's a special kind of stupid.
