I will resist the urge to wonder out loud how there can be a list of anything in which the number of countable items is zero.

Don't people know that the fruity Belgian "ale" is the best swill in the world?

I don't often drink Bell's Two-Hearted anymore, but I can see why it made a list. It was my go-to beer for a while.

This is more to my taste lately.

Pine-Sol actually has a better after taste than any IPA.

It's actually excellent. The name did make my eyebrow rise, I'll admit.

But, you know, there are many good beers in the world. Bengal Lancer and Timothy Taylor's Landlord would top my list.

I hear Bigfoot by Sierra Nevada is top tier, but not bucket list worthy.

Also try Zombie Dust, damned fine IPA.

Iron Hill Brewery makes some good stuff, any of you Farkers come to the Philly area for a Fark Party and I'll bring a growler of the good stuff.

So basically the author of this article texted 10 of his beer friends and said "Tell me the name of an IPA you know or your friends think is good."

There are definitely excellent IPAs on that list, but also beers that wouldn't even been the best beer in a mixed case. There is no reason to make these lists anymore. With the beer landscape as it is, there is an excellent IPA and a terrible IPA within 10 miles of just about any one of us and "best" is simply not a measure that can accurately be reach anymore given a new IPA drops into the market at least every week.

Just drink them and enjoy them and don't worry about what's "best." There's so much "great" that "best" is essentially insignificant. I've been too two Pliny the Younger releases and yes, it's fantastic and better than most other IPAs, but it's not so much different that your life is going to be changed. Just drink what's good.

The best IPA in the world is whichever one I'm drinking at the moment. Tonight, it's a pint of my wife's homebrew from the kegerator in the garage. Best IPA in the world. If you disagree, you can argue with her, but I wouldn't recommend that.

Done in one. I'll never understand why people voluntarily drink stuff so bitter that it practically gives your face a seizure from tasting it.

Zombie Dust tastes different now. I fell in love years ago, butbwuen I tried it again, it tasted like they changed the hops profile.

Less Citra, less crisp , more standard soapy hops

chucknasty: I like pale ale but I dislike IPAs. not that I have anything against India, the flavor is just off for me. weird personal thing.

The flavor is not in fact "off".  IPA's were invented so that beer could be brewed in England and then shipped to India without any refrigeration.  Normal beer would spoil before it got out of port.  So they loaded it up with enough hops to kill anything, and that did the trick.  Brewers like making IPAs because you don't even need to clean your equipment to make a batch.  It's basically an antiseptic.  You could probably clean wounds with the stuff.

I am not much of a beer drinker and know even less about hops and ales, but I usually drink Two Heartwd Ale and if not it's these two:

According to Portland beerbros, the only good IPA is the one from that brewery on the Eastside that hasn't opened yet. As a homebrewer, if you wish to be competitive in the tastings, the last thing you should do is make an IPA or a Specialty ale that's just an IPA with some weird addition.

Yes, I understand the the Style Guide is not to be used to judge commercial beers. I do anyway.

New England > West Coast, though.

I like Bell's Two-Hearted and buy it often. Not a fan of All Day but if your store  carries it, try Founders Centennial. That's what I have in my fridge right now.

My favorite isn't available to buy, a friend and I brew it.

Also, obligatory reminder that "Best [x] in the world" is subjective and meaningless bullsh*t.

Love dogfish 120.  Enough malt to back up the hops.   90 is good as well.  Outside of those my preference leans towards the more citrus aromatic than the bitter tooth enamel removing style.

Voodoo is a pretty solid double IPA for the price. (9.99$USD a sixer here). I enjoy trying all of the other IPA's available (or any style honestly), but some of those single 16oz cans can go for 10$ alone! That is just nuts to me.

I'll switch between Voodoo and this when I'm in the mood for beer (it also runs roughly 9.99$):

I dare say Blind Pig is the best of the three. The other two are good but benefit from effective marketing and manufactured scarcity.

Bells and Founder's are pretty much the best widely-distributed IPAs, in my opinion.

For more limited distribution, Sun Lab makes a couple great ones with lactose and Ology Brewing makes a hazy IPA called Sensory Overload that is really, really damned good.

It doesn't look like the Hop Rising Double available near me, closest is Wisconsin (75+ miles away). If it makes it out here, I'll give it a try. Thanks!

It's truly fitting that this link is directly under the one about beer made from urine, since IPAs are indistinguishable from urine...

Agreed. There are many beers I can't stand the taste of anymore. I think whether it's beer or wine, palate just changes over time.
