One of our largest pharmaceutical manufacturers is an opium dealer.  Without growth, capitalism withers a dies.  Why do you hate capitalism?

And three years ago the estimate was proven to be embarrassingly low?

The actual curve looks pretty exponential... Since not everyone does drugs, there has to be a point where the curve flattens out again, but at over 100k per year is wild.

shiat, at this point selling heroin at dispensaries would probably actually reduce drug deaths.

There was mention of the rates of certain sub-groups suicides but no link(s) to that data.

RIP Becky.

If I manage to not die of a drug overdose in the next few decades, I still won't understand why people find this funny.

It's making fun of people who think marijuana is as addictive and deadly as fentanyl. Opiod addiction and death are still not funny. Foster Brooks made money posing as an amiable drunk, but alcohol addiction and death are not funny.

Sheeple thinks his public representative takes no kick backs. Even the assigned public bureaucrats are taking kick backs. But Sheeple still blames Corporate America.

Peter Reuter, Ph.D., distinguished professor in the University of Maryland School of Public Policy, noted that although the Science manuscript had been cited by scientists hundreds of times since its original publication to support that drug overdose rates are rising, no one had investigated the underlying cause of the relentless increase.

It's climate change.

Far too many of these are suicides that are politely reclassified by the police/coroners. Between the wars, economy, poor job prospects, unattainable retirement, education and housing, I expect it to get far worse.  But we made a bunch of billionaires last year, so HURRAY!
