(Some time traveller)   The citizens of Antwerp got a nasty surprise this morning as they appeared to have travelled back in time to 1940. Stupid Flanders   (brusselstimes.com) divider line

The use of swastikas - even for a historically accurate movie -  is really unnecessary, all it really does is perpetuate and normalize the use of them, and when used for a laugh or a bit (looking at you, 30 Rock) it is tone deaf and dumb as fark.  There is more than enough nazi iconography that can be put on display to get the point across that yes, these would be nazis, without parading the major symbol of nazism aloft.

And in the event you need the banners, CGI them in, but then edgelords gotta lord their edges.

That's moronic thinking. And no, CGI is not a magic button. You can hang a swastika banner for 0.000001% of the cost of CGI and it'll look a hundred times more realistic.

Naziism has been dead for over 70 years, yet you still recoil from the swastika like Dracula from a crucifix.
If you can't tell the difference between a Nazi rally and a role-play session, that's your problem.

They can't have been that surprised. The far-right (Vlaams Belang - VB) is the second biggest party by vote percentage (11.95%) and third by number of seats in lower house in the 2019 federal elections. That may not seem much but those votes were all in Flanders. Nobody in Wallonia is going to vote for Flemish Interest, i.e. VB as VB wouldn't be fielding candidates there

If someone wearing Nazi regalia were pre-emptively shot, I'd agree that it was self defense.

When someone tells you who they are, believe them. Nazi is the same thing as a death threat, and it's time we all started reacting to that threat appropriately.

So Brits like to live in Waterloo, which claims to be on the edge of Wallonia.  I wonder if they would vote, if they could, for French or Flem.

When I stayed in a very nice hotel in Brussels near the Arch I watched a horse parade.  Asked the concierge what it was about.  He didn't know.  He spoke French.  The parade was Flemish.  Belfast was never so divided.

You normally wouldn't vote for a Flemish party if you live in Wallonia because of the electoral districts. Vlaams Belang did enter in all Walloon districts in the 2019 elections as a protest against ... (they'll always find something to protest). They didn't campaign there though and it only got them 18.000 additional votes.

It's almost as if we're two countries.
