I guess anonymous tips should be called in for all administrators every day.  They have to take every tip seriously, right?

Would the student feel better if the fellow student advocated instead for bullet control?

The 2nd says "well regulated Militia" overruling States' rights. There is no reason why that should not apply to States' citizens as well. We need to take ALL guns away from anyone not in a State run "Militia".

Fake threat tips on a anti-violence activist--Farking diabolical basterds.

Must a have been a compassionate conservative RINO calling in fake threats.

Whatever GQP terrorist bastard is doing this deserves (I'm not sayinng should, just that they deserve) to have a howitzer shoved down their throat and discharged.

"...your frustration with the search when you believe that these anonymous SafeVoice tips have falsely accused your son,"

When you believe that the tips were false, that's just what you believe, even though no gun was found proving that the tips were false, it is just your belief.

The student, who will graduate a year ahead of schedule in June, is politically active, including in Students Demand Action, a national group aiming to end gun violence in schools. He's also a campaign finance intern for Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto and is helping with the campaign of school board trustee Adam Mayberry. His social media includes photos of him with President Joe Biden.

I guarantee these targeted "tips" come from someone connected with the local  GQP.   Hope someone pulls some strings and finds some emails, but most likely nothing will happen.

Call in a hot tip that the principal has a gun up his ass.  Let's see if they follow through or not.

Harassment via Trumper is legal in many states.  Hell, half the time it's the cops.

They're not letting the kid back into school until the kid allows them to search his stuff. My thoughts are that someone is sabotaging the kid, possibly with the intent of getting a truant officer involved.

/ that or someone has a vested interest in making sure that this kid isn't Valedictorian

Time to flood that tip line with every ludicrous name you can come up with: handicapped kids, special needs kids, the principal's kid, the class president, etc.

You want to waste MY time? Let's waste ALL of yours.

This is probably not the best idea, bullying-wise. Most school programs like this are associated with the actual cops, and filing a false police report is almost always a felony if you push it to the point that actually filing charges is viable.

If you want to harass someone in school just call them a dick to their face in the hall like a normal person instead of trying to get a criminal record for yourself.

This is a SWATting and should be handled as such by local LE and prosecutors.

But then I have to face up to my actions (and maybe get my ass kicked). Harassing someone by anonymous tip line is much better to protect my coward ass.

The first time it happened should have been the last. This is inexcusable and ridiculous. it goes along with the school board's concept of students as being worthless non-entities. Anyone including anonymous persons repeating previously proven false claims is to be believed without question over a student.

In this age of caller ID and geo-fencing, how hard can it be to find and prosecute the asshole calling in false tips?

Landline phone services have essentially zero security. It's why scammers can call you from your own number.

Setup an auto-dialer that reports every single child at the school as carrying a gun - then they can continue their bullshiat of "having to search every report"

Cell phone plotting is down to the individual department's resources.  In the city my wife works in sometimes a plot is only giving you a 100-250 yard area depending on towers.  It's why she had to try to keep a suicidal 15 year old on the phone for more than 15 minutes trying to get people to the vicinity when he wouldn't tell her his name.

SCOTUS already ruled that the plain text of the amendment doesn't mean what you say it does.  I agree with you, but the law does not agree with us.

Because Republicans are evil and worship  death.

Yep - cell phone systems are actually divided into fairly large "cells" comprised of three towers each. There's a whole lot of phones in each cell and triangulating the position of a particular phone is possible but is based on the relative strength of the signal between the towers. Of course, put some barriers in between and it messes up the equations, because then it looks like the phone is farther from at least one tower than it really is.

The phone itself is able to determine its location based on signals from towers (aGPS) plus actual GPS from satellites, but it's combining multiple data points at once. Getting the towers to do that in reverse requires a system already set up to do so, and also to work with a wide variety of phones, operating systems, etc. It's really quite complicated.

The regular old 911 phone system was just based on either pairing a number with an address (extremely simple), or using the voltage on the line to determine the location of the caller. This is somewhat easier from a technical standpoint since there are only a limited number of possible locations and many of them can be ruled out from the beginning.

I'm sure there's someone else around here who has some serious background on this. I'm just relating what I've heard from people who know far more than I do.

Let's target kids of Repubs who show up at school board meetings to scream about masks and CRT.

It's a great idea bullying-wise. Every time it happens there's a chance he'll be killed. He can't fight back. He can't really object. He ends up with a huge police record that will follow him for the rest of his life. And there's absolutely no risk to the bully.
