That was pretty farking awesome. But I thought going into lightspeed while in atmosphere was baaaad.

This may be allowed by Disney.  The director of the video is a visual effects artist who worked on multiple MCU movies and wrote/did the effects for an official 7 minute piece on Star Destroyers in 2017. It looks like one of the reasons the ships look so good is he had access to the actual code to render them from the films.

What happened to the Farker that used to do the stop motion animation films with Star Wars action figures?   That stuff was awesome.  I still laugh about a stranded Storm Trooper on patrol in Mos Eisley telling some fat guy "Hey!  Put a shirt on!"

Also, this film was really good.

Came across like a last gen video game cutscene.

From a tech perspective, not bad. But as a story it sucks.

There should have been a massive implosion from the cavitation the star destroyers left in their wake.
Something like this scene around 3:20:

Awesome but goes against the whole established canon that ships need to clear gravitational wells before hitting hyperspace. The whole point of interdictor class ships.

I think someone just passed their interview to work at LucasArts.

No, I'm pretty sure it's just like dusting crops.

Visuals were bloody great. Dialogue was along the lines of...

It wasn't exactly the victory Rebellion acted like it was at the end!
The Empire held them off long enough to launch the new super star destroyer which took no damage and escaped!
Nice job, Rebels!

/really well done video though
//One of my least favorite things about Star Wars is how every sequel, prequel, and fan film uses every piece of dialogue that they EVER used in the originals.
"Blasted" is an expression of frustration
"Rebel scum" is the standard Imperial insult.
And so on.

"All hands, brace for turbulence."

Probably the best, most understated line; perfect set-up.

This would be a fun Star Wars Squadrons level.

Technically excellent in terms of effects/visuals, but plays out like a video game cutscene and ignores some of the rules of Star Wars ship physics in atmosphere. Anyone praising this needs to STFU up about the Holdo Manuever or Han approaching atmosphere as he drops out of hyperspace.

Just felt like a video game to me. No real story or heart, just a lot of pew pew boom boom and banal bantering.

As a demonstration of CGI skills it's incredible, but as a Star Wars tale it's less involved or engaging than even an Ewok movie.

Still better than The Last Jedi

Great work, but if I see ONE more played-out fake rack zoom in a VFX shot...

That cheat went out of style in between the first and last episodes of Battlestar Galactica.

See also: a ship fly-by in space that somehow "shakes" the camera.

Sounds like the sequel trilogy - pretty, but devoid of meaning and depth and logic

Looks like the video for one of those fake chair shaking rollercoasters.

oh hey i read those books back when star wars had a story that didnt suck

lusankya had a sled of repulsorlifts under it b/c SSD's don't have enough power for a ground lift.  the imperial fleet shot the shiat out of the city to break the SSD loose from the buildings over it, then covered its ascent.  the rebel fleet (including wraiths/rogues) were trying to damage enough of the repulsorlift modules under it to make it crash before it made orbit.  it (and the rest of the imperial fleet) didn't jump clear until they made orbit.

It's LARP Rogue Squadron, and that's totally ok.

There are fark load of fan made SW content. The Mouse will generally allow it there is no attempt to make money and that their ownership of the franchise is acknowledged.  Not being an asshole, Nazi, etc. Is recommended as well.

Ditto Trek and some other franchises.

The constant switching between crafts and characters, and the weird zoom in an out and the pans...

Technically impressive, sure, but rubbish in terms of content and cinematography.

Camerawork like a go pro strapped to a golden retriever's head...  This plays like a motion simulator ride "experience". AKA a roller coaster with VR headsets.   Way too freaking busy.
