Won't matter.

Can't have Republican politicians out of a job. What else would they do for a living?

2022-05-25 3:17:40 AM
Why?

Because human life means nothing to them, and the ability to shoot whomever they wish for whatever reason they wish is what they value.

Open gun shops..Be religious or legal grifters...Ride on the money they inherited or  that their spouse made/inherited...(That should pretty much cover every elected official)

Powerful speech and wish there were more like this. But the unfortunate reality is that nothing will change.

Every republican politician would simultaneously have to personally suffer devastating losses from guns to do anything meaningful. And even then, even if thousands of republican family members were gunned down in a couple days... incredibly, I still don't think they'd do anything.

It's hopeless. This is all just going to keep happening exactly the same forever.

I can't say when it will happen, but this is the path we're on. The answer is always more guns. More guns equals more gun violence. Eventually the people will take it out on those who are preventing society from fixing itself. That'd be GOP politicians.

"We can't get numb to this." You're right, but unfortunately I am. I just can't physically or emotionally grieve for something that happens so goddamn often. It needs to be stopped, but honestly I just can't feel much anymore other than a resigned "fark, not again."

This is because, as others have suggested, these events need to be heavily publicized, like with Vietnam.

You wouldn't be numb after seeing it for yourself.

Wow. I'd expect such behaviour from low-life soccer fans, but not from high-school kids at a basketball match. When you know that someone's father was brutally murdered and you are faced with the decision of either showing empathy (or at least shutting up about it) or taunting that person, I cannot understand what must have gone wrong in your whole life, upbringing, environment, to pick taunting.

But I must admit that there's so much about some folks I don't understand. Guns, physical or verbal violence, a total lack fo empathy, unwillingness to change things to the better, polticians who work 100% against a better society... It is sickening.

I farking DETEST the phrase "common sense gun control," because it invariably is followed by like two sane proposals and a baker's dozen coo-coo bonkers ideas not grounded in plausibility or utterly failing to tie cause to effect.

Either pair the term with things that are actually sensible, or just admit you want a pony.

Put your money where your mouth is. And get every other college coach of every sport to go along. Don't play your game. Don't play any games. Want to fix the shiat? Boycott your own sports. All of them. Shut down sports entirely. The GQP only care about money.

It's not just gun control legislation alone that they're against.  They've been staunchly against serious research on the subject that could give us real insight into how to best help solve this very complex problem, what with there already being hundreds of millions of firearms in the civilian population alone.

Zero guns. All gun owners relinquish their guns. All gun manufacturers stop producing guns. Anything short of that is just cosmetic.

Ask Australia.

Simple way to get Republicans to do gun control. Flood the government buildings with Black Panthers that open carry heavy weaponry. It was enough to get Reagan to pass gun control. Leftists and Pregnant Women too. Out gun them and they will cower.

No small step will make a dent in the problem. No large step will be considered reasonable by a huge chunk of our broken population.

So...

I posit that any ownership of ANY semi-automatic or high(-ish) caliber weapon should require militia membership (loosely organized and non-government organizations are fine) as well as minimum standardized training. Said militia would have to assume some portion of liability for your actions. You want a gun, you have to belong to a gun club (even if it's an online club that just collects dues and never meets up), and this "militia" has to have some civil liability for your actions, which should cause them to set their own membership criteria and regulations.

Some guns (not most) would not have these burdens.

In this context, it's a political jerkoff word used to instantly make any proposition debatable down
to doing nothing so that neither side hurts anyone's fee-fees and that sweet sweet re-election cash
rolling in, and no voters get put out so as not to tip the political scales and upset any party officials.

Ban new sales of assault weapons.
NO ONE needs an AR-15 or whatevertf
Those guns are straight up murder weapons. Can we start there?
No? Well, then, we truly ARE doomed.

I have an idea: Rename all guns "abortion makers".

Then maybe the Republicans will try to ban them.

2022-05-25 6:16:48 AM
Any time we have one of these threads, and someone suggests "We should ban all assault-style rifles" some goober comes in and says, more or less "yes, but statistically most murders are committed with handguns" as if that should end the discussion. And often it does.

But WHO CARES. Yes: Most homicides are committed with handguns. SO WHAT. Let's take that first step! Let's start doing something! We can acknowledge that, in fact, most homicides are committed with a different weapon and STILL take action to eliminate ONE weapon that does a lot of harm!

Jesus Christ. It's like some idiot earlier today kept helpfully pointing out that most schools don't have mass shootings so parents shouldn't worry about sending their kids and we shouldn't panic about sending our children to school. Well that's true. And before ValuJet, most airplanes took off and landed just fine without their cargo compartments catching on fire. So did that mean the FAA was hysterical about putting fire alarms and fire suppression systems in the cargo holds? OF COURSE NOT.

Other countries like, oh, AUSTRALIA looked at this issue square on and said "we're going to address the one thing that caused THIS PROBLEM and fix it," and they did. There are still murders in Australia. People still kill themselves, hell, people still shoot themselves and each other. Just not with assault rifles. Nobody is pretending an assault rifle ban would solve all the ills of America, or maybe even slow shiat down. But it would be a start.

Maybe for a change fools can stop minimizing the problem by observing that one small fix won't cure the whole problem. No: It will fix THAT problem. You have to start somewhere.

It's doubtful voters will care.  After all, Texas Republicans voted to keep Ken Paxton as the GOP nom for AG.  That's indicted for securities fraud , FBI-investigated, sued-by-the-Texas-bar Paxton, thank you very much.

Also (and I'm saying the pertinent word loudly in this next sentence), we don't ***JUST*** have a gun control problem in America. We have an ignorance and responsibility problem. We ignore the people (and money) causing the problems, inciting the lunacy and desperation, and refuse to make them responsible for any of it.
