BizarreMan: And no weapons are allowed inside the convention space

Yeah, but only for the same reason restaurants won't let you bring in outside food.

/It couldn't possibly be that guns are dangerous tools and they're worried someone would get hurt, after all.

TFG addressed the Parkland shooting in 2018 at the NRA meeting, saying, "all of us agree that we must harden certain schools... We want armed guards... We strongly believe in allowing highly trained teachers to carry concealed weapons."

This is still the default GQP position. Conveniently, it's also the NRA position - it was their response to Sandy Hook - and would sell more guns, which is the important bit.

They'll do their performative fellatio on guns and their hallowed manufacturers, and all will be right with the GOP's terrible, terrible world.

Yes it's shiatty but everyone's forgetting one thing, they don't give a fark and will just say the solution is to throw more guns at the problem, everyone will cheer, and in a week we'll move on to the next mass shooting.

If nothing was done after Sandy Hook, fark all will be done after this.  Especially since Senator Coalfinger has already said this doesn't change his mind on the filibuster.

The building will already be full up on dangerous tools.

Don't worry. Abbott will sign an executive order for "security" reasons to keep the protestors away.

Any weapon can be taken away from you.

Even the ACABs know that, hence they kill without thinking.

that's a bit of a stretch to make a point. Everywhere in America is a few hundred miles from a mass shooting

I don't care if it's 4000 miles away from the school.  There shouldn't be an NRA meeting on Earth.  It's going to be an even worse shiatshow than usual with this fresh meat for them to use to sell fear and guns.  That's fear of their guns being taken, of course.

2022-05-24 11:38:16 PM
We all know what they'll do and say. We already know. We could probably write up almost verbatim.

Of course.  Arm the teachers, right after you cut their pay, and start persecuting them for doing their jobs.

I'm honestly baffled by his quote "The filibuster is the only thing that prevents us from total insanity." I don't know about you, but I would call the brutal mass murders of school children we regularly go through in America total insanity.

It is a constant game of three card monte for them. The idea is to always shift the narrative again and again, so no real discussion can occur.

This is the same guy that when asked by Biden and Schumer "What do you want?" in the BBB bill, he literally couldn't answer it.

I hope they talk about how easy it was for this shooter to legally buy his guns and drop a mission accomplished banner.

Nah! Didn't you see the main thread?

This happens like twice every decade (this = 18+ deaths in an elementary school). So it isn't really a problem at all!

/please note my sarcasm, except for the fact that somebody made that argument

Forget weapons, let's talk body armor instead.  I would assume that teenagers in Texas are issued weapons and all the ammunition they can carry as soon as the turn 16.   But body armor?   Is that extra?

I'm surprised guns aren't considered a commodity, and that people aren't taking positions on weekly gun sales. I guess you can kind of do that via gun manufacturer stock, but it seems like someone would have taken the natural step of dealing with the actual guns.

"Man, I shorted my holdings on AR-15s, thinking there wouldn't be one so soon after Buffalo. I'm getting killed here!"

I have no doubt gun stores will do a lot of sales tomorrow. Biden should put out an Executive Order that shuts down the NICS system for a few days. Can't transfer that gun without a NICS authorization!

In my high school a teacher was molesting students for years. Just think if that guy had a gun... wait, let's not think about it and just give everyone a gun.

Because mass shootings are good for business for both gun manufacturers and Republican politicians.  They depend on a steady stream of mass shootings to keep gun sales high and gun nut political donations rolling in.

BizarreMan: And no weapons are allowed inside the convention space

If you yelled GUN and let off a couple firecrackers, you'd find out how many guns made it inside.  And I bet there would be several casualties from idiots unloading their guns in the general direction of the noise.  The guys who fired the guns wouldn't be charged but the guy with the firecrackers would get slapped with some variety of homicide.

2022-05-24 11:56:58 PM
So what they are really saying, in all of this, is that the police are the problem, the justice system is the problem mentally ill people are the problem...And the solution to EVERY ONE of those problems..Is a gun..

And look how well that's been working so far! It's solved NONE of those problems...I wonder how
many more grade school kids have to get splattered all over their school before this experiment the
government is doing on it's citizens is called off....

Hammurabi's Code is one of the most famous examples of the ancient precept of "lex talionis," or law of retribution, a form of retaliatory justice commonly associated with the saying "an eye for an eye." Under this system, if a man broke the bone of one his equals, his own bone would be broken in return.

It was put into place to LIMIT the damage of revenge and retribution, to create a legal system that had set limits to prevent escalation beyond the initial offense and offender.

With that said, if there is no longer any legal recourse available and no hope of any such, Texas has 19 sacred dead to balance on the ledger.

Just saying.
