Thanks for trying, problem is empathy requires having a conscious and a regard for human life.

When do we get to the point in AI where it can have a discussion for the cop to just have physical presence to enforce?

Anybody wanna wager what that empathy training looks like?

Cop: OK, I need you to stay where you are and show me your hands.
Avatar: Like this? [raising hands]
Cop: No. Stop resisting!
Avatar: I'm not resisting. What did I do?
Cop: *BANG BANG BANG*
Trainer: Well?
Cop: He wasn't resisting and I was in fear for my life.
Trainer: Sounds good to me. A+. Next!....

With helpful photo of about how this is gonna work out.
Of course VR will teach cops empathy by.... pretending to be cops, not by pretending to be people who encounter and interact with cops.

I can see the number one reason this won't work after they go back out as being "The subject didn't have a sympathize button next to their body." or something.

Have they tried hiring cops who already have empathy?

Ha! Yes. Probably not though. You'd have to find someone with empathy who wants to be a cop first. Good luck with that.

"One might argue that the officer used excessive force. But let us remember that we all underwent empathy training, so clearly this amount of force was justified. And empathetic."

VR massively improved my hand-eye coordination. It's more like actual experience than it is like video games.

Doing one of the scenarios on the Army EST 2000.
Scenario is you catch some guy raiding an armory.
Me: Halt. Don't move!
Guy goes to drop a weapon.
I shoot.
Program: Justify your actions
Trainer: Well?
Me: I said don't move.  He moved.
Trainer: He was dropping the weapon
Me: That's movement
Trainer: You shot him right in the nuts
Me: You shoot to stop a threat, not to kill. Hard to be a threat with a hole in your sack
Trainer: You shot him 8 times in the nuts.
Me: 8 times as hard to be a threat.

/Did the scenario for funsies, not an MP

Cops were the bullies when they were kids, and remain bullies as adults.

Just because they routinely murder unarmed Black men, and children to satisfy their racial hatred and secretly admire racists mass murderers, that's it that's all I have to say.

They become jaded. Hard not to be. Maybe cops should only be cops until they become jaded. Maybe empathy training on a monthly basis will help. Don't like it? Quit. You don't need to be a cop because you're against having empathy. Which should be the one thing you're overflowing with if you're going to be a cop. You want to be a hammer looking for a nail then join the Marines.

They'll have to experience the abuse personally to understand it. That's the kind of personality that LE attracts.

Psychological testing yearly and after every incident. Also role play and situational studies. Weed out everyone high on the scale for psychopathy, or at least get them off the streets.
