Hovered over the headline URL, didn't see Applebee's, didn't bother to RTFA.

I love cheesecake.  But whoever started Cheesecake Factory must have, one day, went into a NY deli and bought a slice and said, "Hummm, I should add a farkton more sugar to this."

I've always been suspicious of places that play the "Our menu is a lethal weapon when dropped from more than three feet" game.

"Oh, you want Italian? We do that! Mexican? We do that! 'Asian?' We do that! A heaping plateful of diabetes? You can bet your remaining toes on that!"

I like that factoid about Roman cheesecake making it to England. On our last night there a few years ago, at a rustic restaurant in Kensington -- I think it was named Rustics** -- my wife had a cauliflower cheesecake. You haven't lived until you're face-to-face with someone eating cauliflower cheesecake.

**Maybe Carter Pennyworth (or whatever his name is. Mr. Brexit.) can confirm if it's still there.

Always preferred German baked cheesecake to the overly sweet American style.

I assumed it was going to be about Olive Garden.

I don't mind the Olive Garden. Back when we'd go out for movies...we'd get our tickets a couple of hours early and do OG at the bar for Martinis, Appetizers and salad/breadsticks. It's not great, but they tend to build them right next to a movie theater and get you served by showtime.
It's also a 'safer choice' than a Mom/Pop on a road trip.
And unless the Mom/Pop is highly rated locally....a random Mom/Pop place is using the SAME bags of Sysco stuff but without the quality control of OG. "Geeze Mom...the bags of pre-breaded shrimp has frozen to the pipe again...boil some water" and "Oh, this fryer oil is just fine...we can stretch it another month or two, it's hardly racid at all"

thing I really really love is Japanese steamed cheesecake. so gorgeously fluffy, I feel like the little girl from Despicable Me!!!

but, here. (and is sooooo much better when you've made the Quark your-ownself. but my target audience ain't GAF so I just switched to Neufchâtel. also I started using supermarche pre-made tins of graham cracker crust. eh.)

now, this is a double-recipe, videre licet makes two cheesecakes. so I usually halve it. also I started putting in a metric fark-tonne of key lime, not just " 'nen Spritzer Zitrone "

Quarktorte rezept:

* 1 kg Quark
* 125g Margarine oder weiche Butter
* 300g Zucker (yeahno you can totally cut down on this)
* 3 Esslöffel Grieß
* 2 Esslöffel Stärkemehl (alternativ: Vanillepuddingpulver)
* 6 Eier
* 1 Prise Salz
* 1/2 Päckchen Backpulver
* abgeriebene Zitronenschale und/oder einen Spritzer Zitrone

pffft, that's only 'cos that random roadtrip Olive Garden doesn't know your friends's mother well enough to serve their world-famous coathook-water!

First time I did Cheesecake Factory was at Caesars in Vegas - 2000.   I had the factory burrito, and I thought it was great.  huge burrito stuffed with chicken, peppers, onions.. side of rice, beans and other stuff.

years later the same burrito is crap.  they moved the side of rice to inside the burrito, replacing some of the good stuff.   Most of their menu is pure sodium.  I'll give subby a pass on this one...

rock'n'roll, I use the sword! pi plate was actually on loan from my brother. judging from the photo, ayup is got the initial sequence in red, so it's the slightly-less-expensive version of the 2 current spamazon offerings.
