In a 1998 Rolling Stone article, Depp is quoted as saying that, in conversations with author Hunter S. Thompson, "I was with Kate, and I think he went straight for the romance jugular, s*** like whether I beat her enough. I probably told him, 'Yeah, she gets a severe beating.'"

Depp's team had no comment on the 1998 Rolling Stone quote.

Anything said to Hunter S. Thompson or by Hunter S. Thompson must be taken with a saltshaker of salt.

Dr. Thompson was, upon occasion, known to be unreliable and prone to exaggeration.

Be very careful when taking anything HST carries in a salt shaker and definitely don't take it as salt.

There's an article in a very ancient High Times magazine written by HST. In said article he defines himself as an unreliable narrator.

Right, but it kind of smacks as "I want to look cool in front of my mentor."

You know who we really need to hear from? Vanessa Paradis.

We don't need to hear from any romantic partner. People can beat the shiat out of one partner and be nice to the rest. Every wife beating rapist on earth has friends who SWEAR he's the nicest guy.

What you need to understand is that, while Depp may indeed be a wife-beater, any statements to or from Hunter Thompson specifically should not be assumed to reflect reality. Thompson's shtick was not just crossing the line of good taste, but intentionally stomping on it as if it were his divine obligation.

That's pretty much every rich celebrity.  A couple of hours a week with a professional trainer, someone to cook and prep proper meals, and a stylist is all it takes.

It's easy to find photos of most of them looking extremely average if they are caught between movies and unprepared.

Weird how you pivot from being nice to all the partners except one to talking about having friends who swear they're the nicest guy.

Friends aren't the ones who get to experience domestic violence. Romantic partners, by definition, are.

I mean, my ex husband abused me but didn't abuse his other partners. He will tell you I abused him, but my other partners would not say so. It's not necessarily relevant. Sure, if there is a history of abuse with other partners that might make it more believable, but it doesn't prove the negative. Just because you didn't abuse other partners doesn't mean you didn't abuse one. Some people are oil and water. They don't mix well and that doesn't mean they mix poorly with other people.

ace in your face: Sure, if there is a history of abuse with other partners that might make it more believable, but it doesn't prove the negative

Nobody said it has to prove a negative, but it is relevant to credibility of a claim.

That's why you don't just take the testimony of exes by themselves.

Your claim is we don't need to hear from exes. That's simply demonstrably false. We need to hear from as many people as possible. People who can testify to the behavior of an individual while romantically engaged as well as friends and family.

That doesn't mean everyone or anyone will have seen the nasty side of the accused, we've seen that with serial killers after all, but not every accused person who has a bunch of people are Ted Bundy either.

You have to take each case based on the evidence given, using as much evidence as humanly possible, looking at it as objectively ad unbiased as humanly possible, and determine whether or not the evidence is credible and supports whatever claim it is intended to prove. You then make a decision based on everything you've seen. Not what you personally experienced in your life.

That's how it works.

Our system is not predicated on guilt unless you prove a negative.

What you are continually missing is that for Johnny to win this case he has to prove that amber is lying and not only has he not done that, he likely won't be able to, so this is all just a waste of time. The witnesses to previous relationships aren't really relevant. Johnny is not on trial for DV. It's not the point. The point is whether Amber lied about DV, and Johnny's testimony is hardly relevant since he was blitzed out of his mind and wouldn't have known or remembered his behavior. He doesn't have a leg to stand on in the legal sense.

Close.

In order for him to win he has to prove she lied AND did it with malicious intent.

Which is why I don't expect he will win and I doubt he expects to either. The lawsuit is a stage for him to recover what he can of his reputation in the public eye. Without the circus most people wouldn't care and nothing happens for him, the needle remains unmoved and the studios keep him blacklisted.
