Hipster is still a relevant term to describe annoying people who do and/or sell activities and/or products that have "Never been done before" for a large markup in price, using useless marketing terms such as "artisan", "small batch", "farm to table", etc.

Hipsters are the ones who claim to your face that they are "woke" and open minded, while their actions just gentrified a formerly minority neighborhood and Hipster Karens call the police on non-whites who have the audacity to exist nearby them. Basically similar to Arizona Senator Krysten Sinema.

"Freedom" has been the American Taliban's politically correct way to say "money" since just after they allowed 9/11 to happen, so yeah.

He's absolutely right. Apathy has gotten us where we are at now. If I and my fellow gen x'ers hadn't been so slack and had been more politically active we wouldn't have a lot of these problems now.

Larry Summers

Stopped reading there.

2022-05-24 8:22:29 AM
He's not, but his 33 year old FTC head might be.

Seriously, how does someone with 5 years working experience after law school chair the FTC?

2022-05-24 8:23:09 AM
What is this, 2010?

2022-05-24 8:24:34 AM
I know Summers has open contempt for the bottom 99% because claiming Biden planned, undermined congress out of trillions of dollars,  and spent all of the covid relief funds is laughably false.
In fact, all of the covid relief money was approved by both parties in both the house and senate and signed by President Trump before January 2021 when Biden took office.  Biden was not even in the government at the time.
Further, a large portion of inflation has been a response to a global slowdown in manufacturing and supply chain problems caused by covid-19 and #45s trade wars.  Putin meddling in the energy markets and wars in Syria, Ukraine, and mischief elsewhere have also made things much worse.  This is largely caused by the dismantling of the US state department under #45, and his lies to Putin that the USA and GQP would help surrender Ukraine and other countries to Putin.
So Mr. Summers disagrees with his own policies.  He should look in the mirror and punch himself unconscious to get revenge on the person responsible.
The GQP, only the best people.....

Hipster ?  Most people just call him the idiot.

2022-05-24 8:32:28 AM
So Biden's being called a hipster for the DoJ's stance on corporate concentration of power? That's a clear sign that Biden needs to do more there. If people start calling him a meanie, that's how we'll know things are moving in the right direction but are still like a mile off-target.

Thankfully he lost.

The way you completely misrepresented my point makes me assume you have a large grouping of armsleeve tattoos (some of which you don't know why you got those particular images and/or are in a foreign language that doesn't say what the tattoo artist who sold you on that design claimed it says), wearing a plaid shirt and beard that makes you look like Home Improvement's Al Borland, two hole piercings on each ear, a straw grandpa hat (for some odd reason), and possibly in a "friends with benefits" relationship with a woman who's hairstyle and outward appearance makes her look like a costume store rockabilly version of Betty Page.

Just because your marketing job that has (for example) people put the word "artisan" on a bag of potato chips made in a Frito Lay factory, which you took personally, doesn't mean you can dispute my point of what Hipsters are like.

That's how Hipsters usually are, children of rural asshat Republicans whom are moving into poor minority neighborhoods of various cities and starting quirky businesses using their wealthy parents' money (while  those parents are attacking those poor minorities for not "pulling themselves up by their bootstraps").

Suddenly the police who were nowhere to be found in these areas are suddenly easily available when it's white wealthy kids who inhabit them, and are pushing out the poor minorities into places unknown (usually onto the street and/or into prison, instead of simply into a different poor neighborhood) when they can't afford to live in the gentrified area.

What you say is all very interesting but I have 2 quibbles:

1) "whom are moving"? We've been trying to get rid of "whom" for years and here you drag it in as a predicate pronoun.
2) You don't deny that only Republicans use the term "woke". It's a cheap-seat insult.

1) Who is this "we've" who are trying to get rid of the pronoun "whom"? For me I am describing Hipsters (who I further describe as "children of rural asshat Republicans", where I should of used a comma after the word "Republicans" to add a pause in the sentence) as the noun which "whom" is attached to as a pronoun.
2) Because Hipsters are Republicans in disguise, which is why they use the term "woke" to describe how they pretend to be knowledgeable and tolerant of the various mores and ways of different cultures, social/financial classes and/or religions, but their actions say otherwise.

"Whom are" is pretty much gonna be incorrect in all situations. "Whom" connects to an object, not a subject (the thing something is done to, not the thing doing the doing), and "whom are" automatically places it as subject.

Also, please tell me "should of" was therefore a joke.

I usually prefer to be adversarial, since I still wonder what group of English experts no longer wish to use "whom" as a pronoun when it was used in the past. Also, I am curious what other changes have occurred in these years since I was badly taught how to write? My attorney father hates to use "that" as a conjunction in legal documents despite speaking it to me during dictation (he corrects his own words often) when I type what he says.

I don't, I enjoy being married. Just is a struggle when you decide to marry a woman who has three kids and we have to transport them to and from ex-husband's home when he doesn't make the trip. Plus our mutual difficulty of being older and wanting to see what's outside (parks, beaches, malls, Halal restaurants, Muslim stores, other stores), when her kids are just like me when I was younger when I just wanted to stay inside and play video games/watch tv. Trying to get the kids to go to masjid is a big chore, despite all of them being born Muslim, they only want to go when the masjid has food after a lecture.

My point being is that Hipster (and as said above, also Karen) is still a relevant term to describe a certain grouping of people. No matter that some right wing Laissez-faire dipshait wrongly uses the term "Hipster" to describe Conservative Democratic Party POTUS Biden for his executive department's antitrust regulations being enforced, it is still a proper term when used correctly.

Karen is still a perfectly valid term of derision.  As are "Okay Boomer" and other, similar, phrases used as shorthand for "You're an out of touch asshole clinging to nostalgia for a time that never existed".
