I'm a Washington Generals fan. They're the ultimate underdogs. They lose, lose and lose again, only to get back up and keep trying.

That glorious day in 1971 will never be forgotten.

That's about the time I saw them at Freedom Hall. It was great to have some of the memories refreshed by seeing them on TV a few times. I think it was Wide World of Sports that would periodically show them.

The 'Trotters HAVE lost since then, including games against high-profile college squads like Michigan State, Vanderbilt and the NABC All-Stars plus a select team Kareem Abdul-Jabbar put together. The 1971 game stands out because it's probably the last time they lost to their "stooge" team.

If you ever go to one of their games you'll see long stretches where they drop the shtick and just play ball for real. And their guys are REALLY good. Experts have said they would almost certainly be a competitive team if they ever played in the NBA for whatever reason.
