They said disappointing. The Orioles are fulfilling expectations

Reds.

If it's expected, is it a disappointment?

/unload the hitters! They cost too much!
//unload some pitching, why not!
/// Balance the injured list turnstiles! Could power the city with 'em!

The Mariners have reverted to the mean.   And it is really strange to say that I am disappointed, but I had pretty high hopes going into this season.

Ah well, it's still only May, and the Mariners gotta Mariner, I guess.

I finally jumped off the wagon a few years ago. I got tired of "This year things are going to turn around for sure!!" and every year by June, they're 15 games out of first place. I really wish they'd sell the team to a Mark Cuban-type of owner who wants to actually get some good players and WIN.

That's the thing.  They have a loaded minor league system, bought some decent free agents, unloaded some dead weight (see ya Kyle, your brother you aint!) and kept some decent veteran players around.   They have pretty good starting pitching even though their bullpen is kinda crappy.   And they came out of the gate hot!   That's all the things you want to see in a team making a legitimate attempt to get better.  And it isn't like Jack D left the cupboard stocked.  That fat asshole damn near ruined the franchise.

I've been a Mariner's skeptic since they let Randy Johnson go.  But this year, well...

Let's be honest, they overperformed last year.  This is how they were expected to be last season.

You can put the whole Mariners' bullpen on the list of disappointments. Last year, Sewald, Steckenrider and Sadler were all studs. Even projecting regression for that group of journeymen, there was reason to think the bullpen would be exceptionally deep with those three, Proven Closer Diego Castillo, Proven Closer Ken Giles, stud prospect Andres Munoz, the rapidly developing Erik Swanson, live arm Yohan Ramirez, and once-hyped prospect Justus Sheffield.

Instead Giles is hurt again, Sadler is hurt, Swanson is hurt (after looking very good to start), Steckenrider has regressed hard, Castillo is bad, Sheffield is bad (and now in AAA), Munoz is struggling, Ramirez is bad and has been DFA'd, and for the umpteenth season in a row it's not even June and the team has turned the waiver wire into its revolving bullpen door.

Sewald though... he's good, and I'm glad he got to troll Mets fans a bit.
