The Pac Land game is the song I always think of. The cartoon had the better version once I googled it

I am ashamed to admit that I had the Buckner & Garcia album (yes, vinyl) back in the early 80s.

That and Back in Black were in heavy rotation (along with News of the World, DSotM, Animals, and The Wall). Yeah, my taste in music was confusing. Kinda wish I still had the album though. I still have the others. Don't know where it went. Disappeared in high school and assumed it was lost somewhere in my parent's house. It never showed up.

I have my copy of the album from when purchased new.  I have no means to play it now.  But I kept it as part of my video game memorabilia.

Huh. I suspect what you described is pretty common. I have about 100 albums. I also haven't owned a record player for 20 years. I have a LOT of CDs, but I ripped those to FLAC ages ago and they have been stored in milk-crates under the basement stairs since before the kids (who are high schoolers now) were born.

Damn straight. And it's not getting replaced by the song in the link. That one's kind of a mess.

FYI, but if it's the early 80s and you want to drive your parents insane, there's already a Pac-Man theme or two for you:

There will be only one real theme for Pac-Man.

As someone who was given PAC MAN FEVER on vinyl for my 10th birthday, let me just say that hearing it digitally like this isn't the same at all, you really lose a lot of the warmth and depth of sound.

Doesn't make it better. It's repetitive, lacks a strong hook, and sounds like a generic anime theme song composed by an AI.

Didn't say it was better. It's definitely not. Just pointing out that "official" actually means official in this case.

Indeed there was:

"Pac-Man Fever" (Pac-Man)
"Froggy's Lament" (Frogger)
"Ode to a Centipede" (Centipede)
"Do the Donkey Kong" (Donkey Kong)
"Hyperspace" (Asteroids)
"The Defender" (Defender)
"Mousetrap" (Mouse Trap)
"Goin' Berzerk" (Berzerk)

They had to re-record it from scratch in 1999 because the record company wouldn't do a CD. So if you hear a version where the samples are a little off (and they use a real cat and dog for Mouse Trap because they didn't have a machine and MAME wasn't really a thing), that's the re-recorded version.

They also did this in 2015:

About as prescient as these new wavers from 1979 predicting social networks.

I fidget with the digit dots
And cry an anxious tear
As the XU-1 connects the spot
But the matrix grid don't care
Get a message to my mother
What number would she be?
There's a million angry citizens
Looking down their tubes at me
