Zelensky started out as a stage performer. He can pitch a room. Using that to get the global economic community to invest in Ukraine is the best thing he can do for his country right now. I think I'm going to keep an eye on startups that might emerge.

Ukraine already had the Wild Wild East thing happen back in the 90s.  Booting out their kleptocrats is one of the things that pissed Putin off so much.

I think the Ukrainians know what to watch for in that regard.

Ukraine isn't in the Eurozone, but I know Ukraine wants to be.

Well formulated.

They didn't do that but it would be good if they did.

/If a kleptocrat or two being on the losing side of a political struggle is "booting out their kleptocrats" then Russia "booted" them too.
//Ukraine's most notable kleptocrat is Igor Kolomoisky who became a billionaire looting Ukraine in the 1990s. The U.S. government placed sanctions on him in 2021 but he hasn't gone anywhere.

If Trump wins re-election, 2024 to 2026. Otherwise it's hard to see that happening.

Oh, I hope he does.

1) Trump made many enemies in the intelligence community
2) Our three letter agency guys who are totally not in Ukraine have made some local friends
3) Some battle-hardened Ukrainian veterans might not appreciate the presence of a guy who has worked for Russia trying to muscle in on their turf
4) It'll be a bit messy in postwar Ukraine. Law enforcement will have their hands full with local crime, and might not have the manpower or inclination to investigate the obviously accidental demise of some American asshole, especially when a 3-letter agency BFF waves them off.

Interesting since Zelensky was trying to take Klitschko down on corruption and embezzlement the last couple years.

Also just imagining them walking together at 5'7 and 6'7 looking like a live version of Ukrainian Arnold and Devito twins

The EU needs to accept that Russia is here to stay. The only next steps left to the West are bullying Ukraine into ceding the Donbas region to Russia in return for total withdrawal and peace or total war with Russia itself. We'll know one way or the other before years end. I'm for wiping out Russia myself and calling it whogivesafarkastan. But I'm old and I don't have to fight, most likely. Since the EU isn't unified in its efforts to cut off all purchases from Russia this won't drag on too much longer. Well not all out war anyway. But it won't work out the way Ukraine wants it to. It's good we bloodied Putins nose now we have to finish the job or not. China is next and I would expect Russia to open a new front when China attacks Taiwan. Iran will probably start shiat in Syria but does anyone really care. Not like we have to rush over or anything.

I don't think they've had sufficient time to workshop it yet.

Maybe in a couple of weeks it will be vaguely coherent ramblings instead of whatever that was.

The best thing we can do is build back better the Ukraine. That would really tick off the rooskies.

Give people money to buy stuff. It really is that easy.

If everyone could just agree on a good enough reason to do so, such as a pandemic or alien attack or a worldwide recession or war, nobody really seems to debate that it is a good idea. Marshall Plan? OK! Cold War? Let me get my checkbook.

So. We spend a lot of time trying to convince people to consume less, not more. Why? What we ought to do is make a huge effort to get so much renewable generation online that we don't have to worry about more consumption messing up the atmosphere. We can do the investment consumption thing really well. I am becoming convinced that getting people to "conserve" is "never" going to work. Even true believer Elon Musk gave up on conservation a decade ago. Made him the richest man in the world selling people roller coaster rides.

So yeah. Build back better in Ukraine, and while you are at it, do the rest of E. Europe with 150% renewable and nuclear. Then send the excess energy westward.
