*Fingers crossed*

You don't become as rich as NFL owners by caring about what happens to other people, but if you screw them over heaven help you.

Billionaires care about one thing only, and that's money.

Billionaires only care about their money.

Just a tiny clarification

Snyder has owned the Washington franchise through 23 years, three name changes, and not enough wins.

Redskins -> Washington Football Team
Washington Football Team -> Washington Commanders

That's two. What's the third?

The only reason I'm ruling it out now is that Al Davis is no longer with us.

Although, truth be told, I'd wager that Lamar Hunt may have been the most likely NFL owner to have ever called a hitman. Trying to corner the global silver market is the sort of thing where you might have to do that.

I don't know why I hate Snyder so much, I've never been a Redskins fan or lived in the DC area, I have no rational (or even half-decent irrational) reason to hate him, I think there is just something naturally hateable about the man.

With any luck, the owners vote him out and DC can get the owner it deserves, like Musk, or some other cult leader.

The owners will tolerate a lot of heinous shiat, because they do not want to set the precedent and put their own necks at risk.  It has to be financially destructive before they step in.  The MLB intervened when McCourt began using the Dodgers to pay for his divorce.  The NBA kicked out Sterling when his actions were going to cost the team and the league hundreds of millions of dollars in cancelled sponsorship deals.  It's going to take a financial disaster on that scale to oust Danny Boy

For a while we just called them Washington Redacteds.

With Sterling, the bigger issue was that his players weren't going to take the court for his team.

Credit Silver there, too- he had that situation in check in about 8 seconds. It could have ended very, very badly if he would have dragged his feet. Don't expect anything near that from Goodell.

Reminds me of the line from the Showtime program Billions, where the hedge fund guy is attempting to buy an NFL team, and one of his business rivals, already an owner, tells him "Sports franchises are how we knight people in this country, and you're not royalty, you're a robber baron"

Years ago, the NFL owners kept Trump out of their ranks, in a "not quite our class, darling" manner.  This Snyder thing has the same ring to it.

That was still David Stern back then if I'm not mistaken

It was Silver. That happened shortly after he took over.

Then either Stern retired a lot longer ago than I remembered or Sterling farked up more recently than I remembered. And quick Google search shows it was the latter. I could have sworn the Sterling stuff happened in the '00s

Well the (failed) Elgin Baylor lawsuit was a few years earlier.

That was part of it, but the owners pulled the trigger specifically when the sponsor boycotts threatened shared revenue.

In the old days, there were very few owners that didn't have mob ties.  Heck, you could argue Kraft has ties, between his ties to the spa whose owner hangs out in Mar a Lago selling access to Trump, to giving Trump's boss his Superb Owl ring.

Dan Snyder is a horrible person. Absolutely horrible. All front office employees are required to address him as "Mr. Snyder" and are told never to make eye contact with him or talk to him directly. They're to talk to his assistant, who then relays it to him.

He sued a grandmother over season ticket money. He cut down trees on the property of his neighbor, the US government, to improve his view of the Potomac River. He tried to have his thugs physically herd a young woman into his limo. He ran a wildly popular football team fan base into the lowest-performing fan base in the NFL.

The only way the NFL will kick him out is if a large majority of NFL owners are willing to withstand and pay for the endless lawsuits he'll file against them. He does not skimp on lawsuits, or private investigators, or intimidators, or people who'll anonymously defile his opponents with press rumors. He does not quit. The NFL is afraid of him.

He's the worst person in the NFL.

I assume the league and teams are trying to assess how much potential dirt he could release and what the financial fallout from that could be.
