People like this are expected to violate the terms, even stupid simple ones like that. Now the prosecution can say "well, you had a chance" when they throw him in the pokey to await trial. Then it's more evidence against them at trial.

I wish they'd jail that guy running for Senate who pointed his guns at peaceful protesters, since he keeps trying to make his community service either working for himself or doing pro bono work for right wing groups like Project Veritas.

The only inch I would give any of those traitors is the distance that the gun muzzle would be when they were properly executed. There is only one penalty for treason.

Tolerating them is always a mistake. None deserve the benefit of the doubt because there is no doubt what they all are.

I assume he will appear before a judge regarding his violation of the terms of release.  The judge will cut the prosecutor short, tell the defendant not to do it again, and send him back home.
Remember, he's an oppressed person and he was only trying to keep America white.
So he beat a cop?  It was a thing, and we really need to make sure he is comfortable at home and puts it behind him.  No way he shows up next time with an assault rifle to the capitol or a Buffalo NY grocery store.

There seems to be a common trait among this crowd.  Refuse to follow rules, and get offended when then called out for it.  Their solution is to overthrow the government because that is so much easier than admitting they have a personal problem that could be solved with a little effort.

"Beddingfield has a history of allegedly violating his pretrial release guidelines."

So -- a guy out on bond regarding a murder charge, uses this freedom to go participate in a violent insurrection, then proceeds assaults LEO.

And somebody thought it was appropriate to release this jacka**?? How did the J6 activities no cause his murder bond to be revoked instantly???

Seems like the ideal candidate for pre-trial release.

The judge gave a convicted felon, on probation for felonious assault with a deadly weapon, with a history of abusing pretrial release in his prior trial, pre-trial release for storming the Capitol and battering DC police with a flagpole.

(Beddingfield, pictured center.)

That's not "giving the defendent an inch", it's "bending over backward for the defense."

"Matthew Jason Beddingfield, 20, of North Carolina, was first identified by online sleuths who are investigating Jan. 6 suspects and named in a March 2021 HuffPost story. In December 2019, just over a year before he is accused of traveling to Washington with his father in support of former President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, Beddingfield shot a Hispanic teenager in the parking lot of a Walmart.
Beddingfield pleaded to felonious assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting in August. He was sentenced to probation.
Federal prosecutors say that while he was on pretrial release in connection with the shooting, Beddingfield sent racist messages to others online, including messages that praised Adolf Hitler. Under the conditions of his pretrial release, Beddingfield was told "not to have any access to any social media." He established two social media accounts anyway: @rightwing.dissident on Instagram and @sirwetemup on Snapchat, according to federal prosecutors.
Beddingfield has now been federally indicted on charges of civil disorder; assaulting officers using a dangerous weapon; assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly weapon; and several misdemeanors in connection with the riot on Jan. 6, 2021.
There's no dispute that Beddingfield stormed the Capitol - his federal public defender didn't even attempt to make the argument that he didn't, given the extensive evidence.
Prosecutors allege that video outside the Capitol appears to show Beddingfield at the front of the mob after the initial breach of the barricades, giving what appears to be a Nazi salute in front of the Capitol, using a flagpole as a weapon against a line of police officers and throwing a metal pole at police, one of whom the pole appears to strike."

While I love the starry eyed optimism I really doubt there will be any consequences.

I've given up... I kept expecting there to be some semblance of justice or due process. Time and time again, we see that is not the case. There is no real accountability for these people because what they did is not considered a crime by those in power.

A supreme court justice's wife helped organize the violent overthrow of our country.

A former president orchestrated a coup.

Many current representatives have openly come out in support of the insurrection.

Most of those sent to trial received a slap on the wrist.

We are not even allowed to call terrorism terrorism if the person committing the act is a white republican.

We are still the country of Jim Crow, slavery, bigotry and genocidal theocracy. That has never changed. You can still vote, but it is increasingly marginalized and weighted toward those that seek to keep the country from bettering itself. Soon they won't even need to count your vote if they don't like the result.

Further, for those that say justice moves slowly and we have to get things just right, it has been six years since a presidential candidate invited a foreign power to interfere in our election on live TV. It has been six years since the Trump campaign met with Russian lawyers to discuss opposition research.

On top of all of that, we are going to burn again this summer as climate change makes our world increasingly less hospitable and we have experienced one of the worst death rates in the world during a pandemic because of disinformation and mismanagement.

I really don't see how anyone can be hopeful at this point.

We didn't go hard on Confederate states after the civil war.

We didn't go hard on Nixon after he used the power of his office to commit crimes that would help him stay in office.

We didn't go hard on W for crimes against humanity committed to get dad's win back.

We didn't go hard on Trump for conspiring with a hostile foreign country and multiple unregistered foreign agents to get elected, attempted political genocide, extortion of a foreign head of state for political gain, and organizing/inciting an insurrection intended to overthrow the constitution and the law.

Is it just possible that our recurring problems are a result of an outright refusal to apply consequences to those who wipe their asses with the constitution?

Stop treating irrational, moronic insurrectionists as though they're reasonable, remorseful citizens who only "made a mistake."

They're not going to change, because what they hear when judges do this is "I GOT AWAY WITH IT! THAT FARKWIT ACTUALLY BELIEVED ME! HOLY SHIAT, THESE FARKERS ARE STUPID AS HELL! I KNEW I WAS SMARTER THAN THEM!"

They smile, nod, and then do whatever the hell they want, because that's what they were farking doing WHEN YOU ARRESTED THEM IN THE FIRST FARKING PLACE!

I mean, this asshole was out on bond for attempted murder BEFORE the January 6th insurrection, and violated the terms of that release - what in the fark gave the judge the idea that he'd abide by the terms of this release?!

The part that pisses me off about all of this is that the Constitution, itself, has explicit goddamned guidelines for how to handle folks like these assholes when they pull shiat like this, and we're simply not following them. We're glad-handing these idiots because, awwwww, they didn't know, really, it's OK, it's not like they're habitual monsters who a political party bent on dominating the country spent the last 20 years radicalizing - they just made a mistake, that's all.

This.
George Floyd was accused of passing a fake $50 bill and was publicly executed by police.
This is more than just this defendant being "white".  It is the big tent idea of the modern GOP that white people are superior in every way to others, and that the laws exist to ensure the others stay in line and know their place not to defend "law and order" for everyone.
I have little doubt that if I peacefully protested outside of certain high profile government officials houses I would be threatened by gun toting law enforcement people, and likely arrested.  If I was black and toting an assault rifle doing the same I would be killed.  Sure as hell wouldn't be sent home after having a judge shut down the prosecution.  This guy is a lowlife nazi loser.  We used to know what to do with nazis in this country.  Throw him in prison and throw away the key.

There is an unwillingness to prosecute rich, powerful white men -- I'm not sure why exactly, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with a) ability to orchestrate a defense, and b) an inability to see the threat these people pose because of alot of latent, racist bias: "its a wealthy white American doing it -- it can't really be terrorism or a coup"
