Good on the Biden Administration.

Half a million bottles is breakfast. Any ideas about the rest of the day?

For the first 200 years, the colonies/US lived on free natural resources. For the following 200, on free and cheap labor at home and abroad. The US is going to have to accept manufacturing costs, manufacturing wages, and overall prices that keep up, and stop living on just-in-time inventories and leveraging of the next three generations to pay for what they want now.

Or they are going to have to own Russia and all of the climate-change refugees working agricultural and manufacturing jobs there for the next 200 years.

Well, newsflash, republics need babies, and they need formula.  When your economy shuts down baby formula plants you should really start asking if your political stance actually sustaines life or slowly destroys it.

The "economy" didn't shut down the Abbott plant, the feds did, and without good cause as it turns out. Federal policies are also responsible for the lack of competition in the market and the resultant lack of resiliency of supply when one manufacturer goes offline.

They tested the plant. Cronobacter was found on the grounds, but the DNA showed without question that it wasn't the cronbacter that was the cause of the dead infants' infection.

Anyone else notice that awhile ago, prescription medicine had a bit of a minty taste to them? That's because nobody was making sterile sodium bicarbonate because it just wasn't profitable enough to churn out.. so they were left with good ol' Arm & Hammer and peppermint oil.

But where's the quarterly profit in that?

Formula actually has a place in the market. Some women naturally have trouble producing enough breastmilk to keep their child alive or jobs with enough duties they didn't have time to nurse . In the olden days, pre-1860s, it wasn't uncommon to hire a wet nurse whose job would be to nurse the child with their breastmilk. When this fell out of favor for "dry nursing," their was a sudden rash of babies dying from lack of nutrition. That's when formula entered the scene, as a substitute for breastmilk in cases where are the mother had died, wasn't producing enough, or couldn't nurse for job reasons.

His point stands. He did not say that ALL mothers can breastfeed. Most is not synonymous with all. Being biologically incapable of breastfeeding and not being permitted to breastfeed are two different issues. When a woman must choose between breastfeeding and paying half the rent and bills so that she, her partner, and both her children can remain housed and fed; that's a lot closer to compulsory bottle-feeding than freely chosen bottle feeding. In other words, there's no profit in breastfeeding.

We could implement both real maternity leave and protections against poverty resulting from discrimination against mothers returning to the work force or not paying into social security for a few years, but it's more profitable to force mothers to leave six week old infants in daycare centers with a bottle of artificial human milk.

Face it our current policies are not pro-family; they are not pro-woman; and they sure as hell aren't pro-baby or child.

My good friend is taking care of her niece (Husband's sibling's female child? I guess niece?). She needs formula to feed the child because she's not nursing and is not at the stage where the child can eat any solid food. You sound like someone who read something in a book and tried to make it fit their biases.

Is the USA even an industrialized country anymore?  Didn't we sell all our factories as scrap to China for them to build factories out of?

/Besides, the LaLeche commandos want women to breastfeed children until they're, like, 15 or 16.  Ain't nobody got time for that.

That would only be true if 100% of all infants are being fed formula.  They aren't.

It would also require that all children before the age of 1 are being fed formula.  They aren't.

So half a million bottles is actually around 2 days of support for the country.  They brought in 6 days on the first round of shipments (1.5 m bottles).

That is if all formula production was shut down in the US.  Guess what?  It wasn't!

Yes, some specific brands with particularly interesting characteristics got halted, but that's not going to deprive the market.

The farking fear mongering and insta-hoarding that took place however most certainly farked the market.  This one was purely a self inflicted shortage.  I wouldn't be surprised if most of the formula purchased in the last few weeks ends up never being used... because farking grandma went and bought a can "just in case" jimmy (who is 14 months and been on solids for half a year) might need it.  Yes, we're that god damn stupid.  And why do I suspect that?  Because they aren't dumping the formula being received from Europe into the normal supply chain - it's going to hospitals and clinics so they can tell grandma to fark off, and only hand out to parents that actually have an infant in the right age bracket.

And the rest of your rant... well the less said the better.
