Everybody stopped on the traffic lanes should be charged with reckless driving.  You don't stop in the middle of the farking road,

The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a red zone.

I really don't see much problem with parking on the side of the road beneath and overpass.

Parking in the middle of the freeway, regardless of whether or not there is an overpass, is a bad idea in general.

If there's room off the road under a bridge, you're f*ckin A I'm stopping there. What am I, a putz? This headline is way too simplistic, and makes me think that maybe the submitter has never sat in a car less than a mile from a f*cking tornado, stuck in a miles-long traffic jam 10 miles south of I-20 in north central Texas, with Civil Defense on the radio and hail battering your car like a thousand hammers.

Well, on the plus side when someone slams into you from behind you'll have you'll only have a fraction of a second to think about what an idiot you are.

No matter how bad the weather is you don't stop on the road. If you need to stop you pull over onto the shoulder. Why? Because YOU are not the arbitrator of when other people feel it's safe to drive. Perhaps they're more experienced than you, or have better vision, or are just reckless. The why doesn't matter. Just because you don't feel it's safe to keep driving doesn't mean everyone feels the same and right or wrong they're going to keep driving. And if you dumb ass is parked in the centre lane of an expressway they might just plow right over / through you.

Exactly. There was one in downtown Tucson that had depth markings on it. 13 ft put your bumper even with the overpass itself.  Granted you'd have to hydroplane about 50 ft to get there, but that didn't stop one idiot in a VW bus from trying. The overpass stopped him and it slowly sunk. He managed to get out via the sunroof.

The problem is that once you stop, everyone else decides it's a good place to stop too, and then you get TFA's images.

As a veteran storm chaser who has driven through the core of a storm, even one that isn't possibly producing a tornado but still has "near blinding rain," Robinson has been forced to stand on his brakes to prevent his car from slamming into a vehicle in front of him under a bridge.

Why is this "veteran storm chaser" driving so fast in "near blinding rain"? If you have to "stand on your brakes", then the people under the overpass aren't the problem, it's your reckless driving.

The people parked under the overpass in the middle of a freeway are also the problem.

People who think an overpass will protect them from a tornado are idiots.

I reckon it stops the hail a treat, but I read somewhere that under a bridge the windspeed actually increases making it more dangerous if the tornado hits.

It's not a viaduct it's an overpass

It creates a wind tunnel effect that can make things worse.

Worthless Canuckian advice.

If you're going fast enough in a blinding storm that you have to "stand on your brakes" to avoid hitting a car stopped ahead of you, you're going too fast and probably breaking the law.

I've parked under an overpass when a storm gets to bad to see any distance, however I pull over so I'm off the road. When the hail starts to bounce off the car and you're just waiting for your windshield to shatter, a bridge is a good place to stop.

Of course the best thing to do is be mindful of the weather in the 1st place, so you know not to go get on the @&#%ing highway because there's a tornado watch or warning in effect.

Weather generally doesn't just sneak up on you.

Also: pulling off the road under a bridge? A-OK.

Just stopping in a lane on the highway under a bridge? Bwah, no, WTF are you thinking. Good way to get yourself & others killed.

"Well fark everyone behind me, but at least my car is safe. Sorry I shut down the whole road way, but it's more important that I don't get a ding in my car than any of the rest of you even get the chance to get off the road."

The article was so stupid I feel like this was AI generated, but I don't want to insult AI.  No shiat crowding up the middle of the road is stupid, parking on the side of an overpass is still something I will definitely do.

You, so-called Tyrosine, just wasted a lot of words ignoring the very first phrase in my post, that being If there's room off the road under a bridge. All I'm wondering is how the hell you just got away with name-calling, personal attacks, and a ton of other sh*t that people get their posts deleted for.

If you park under an overpass to escape a tornado then your father will force you to stand there and watch as the tornado kills him and your dog.
