If it's not haunted, it's not worth it.

Well, that's enough Indiana for today.

This is idiotic.

What's funny is that around here there are a couple of places which have "a Clark Gable room" where he'd used to stay when traveling through the region, specific inns and a specific room within each one. It's weird. But at least it's a famous person, not the basis of a TV movie of the week.

True crime podcasters and YouTubers chomping at the bit to record episodes there, I'm sure.

I have no problem believing that is the most interesting thing in Evansville.

I used to fill the vending machines at that hotel.....at 3 AM in the morning.  Being haunted would be a major step up.

They rented the room for 14 days?

What exactly was their plan?  I thought they'd be headed to Canada or Mexico.

Maybe they figured it they could survive together for 14 days in Indiana that it was true love, then they could take off for a border?

CSB:  I had a friend in Louisville for years and I'd stay with him on my cross country trips. For a while he had this young, slutty little thing living with him, named Elvis of all things. One day my friend and I were chatting and Elvis calls out from the other room, "How far is it to Evansville?"

My friend replied, "Too far for a trick."

Anyway, that's my CSB. Evansville:  Too Far For a Trick™.

Maybe they thought they could blend in with the locals?  My first thought when I heard the reports they'd been spotted in Indiana, and looking at their pictures, was "yeah they look like your average Indiana person".  The problem is people in small town Indiana are nosy as fark, and with their pictures being plastered all over national news they were bound to get snitched out.

$63/day for 14 days = $882. They gave a homeless guy $100 to rent it for them. I'm guessing they gave the homeless guy $1000, flashed their guns at him to remind him not to take off, had him go in and rent the room for however many days he could get for the remaining $900, and when he came back with the key, told him to keep the $18 as a tip to keep his mouth shut.

At the Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan if you ask for the Sid and Nancy room they tell you it was split into three rooms in a remodel years ago and no one's really sure which ones they are.

That place is kinda creepy enough though.

I still need to stay at the Cecil in LA sometime. It's called "Stay on Main" now.

I stayed at that exact Motel 6 25 yrs ago when I discharged from the Navy. I drove from Norfolk VA to Phoenix, over 4-5 days, Evansville IN being one of towns I slept in.

When I saw they were caught in Evansville, I was like, "hunhhh....I've been there." When I saw "Motel 6", Evansville being a Relatively small "big city", I google mapped it.  Ayup. Same one.

there are 'nice' hotels in town... but there is also a strip along Hwy 41... and the road that parallels 41 on the north end of town (same general area where this place is)... kentucky Ave or old 41 that has several shady low rent no questions kind of places... and while I don't drive through there often I always notice that there are a LOT more cars at those places than I would expect... just a small step above living out of your car

and it was a big manufacturing center for the second world war... factory just down the road from this hotel made p47 thunderbolt and down by the river they made the LST (landing ship tanks)... tens of thousands of rural people moved here for the factory work.
They tore down the old Sterling Brewery about 20 years ago.  I think prior to Sterling there was a Cook's brewery.
The p47 thunderbolt was air-cooled and could take a lot of 'hits' and keep flying... there was a saying among WWII pilots: 'if you want to get the girl, fly a spitfire... if you want to get home... fly a thunderbolt.
