Big Country was one of the greatest live bands. So good, I was planning a trip to Scotland just to see them. I thought they had finally called it quits a few years back I guess not.

Virtually unknown in America, they were tremendously successful in Europe.

I would've thought they ended with Stuart Adamson.

I love Big Country. Stuart Adamson is long dead, but his sidekick has stepped it up and kept it going right.

No, they picked it up again in '07 and have been limping along since then.

Looks like they are active this summer.

I see this is going to be a morning of catharsis and lots of tears.
That's OK because we all need t from time to time.
I don't make any bones about being a Big Country fan. I enjoy spreading the gospel about the band.
Stuart was true romantic. His lyrics are deep and insightful, he pulled them from the core of his soul. He believed in peace and love and he wasn't afraid to stand up for it. They were blacklisted from radio play in the United States when the second album, Steeltown, came out because of the song "Flame of the West" which was a thinly veiled criticism of Reagan and nuclear proliferation.
Of course people would rather listen to songs about farking and fighting not despair and hope. Things are bad but will get better was a consistent theme and I think that message is something people need to hear now more than ever.
There's a lot of hopelessness and depression happening now, and left unchecked the consequences are unthinkable.
Time to get stuff done. Search youtube for Big Country live. There are a lot of shows of varying quality to see. As Clash City Farker stated, they were an amazing live show. Listen to the studio stuff too. Listen to it loud and pay attention to the lyrics.

I'll probably post more later, but I feel this is a pretty important song that ticks all the boxes

The eagle soars above the clouds
The deer ran in the hills
And I may walk in cities
Where the wolf once had his fill
And here is strength for us to find
To turn the old to new
And wipe our eyes of misty years
And see the future through
I chose this place to call my own
The only grace I've ever known
I never tire of legends grown
We dream too much and time has flown
Eiledon, I will be there
Eiledon, my dream is there
So let me fill my children's hearts
With heoroes tales and hope it starts
A fire in them so deeds are done
With no vain sighs for moments gone
Eiledon, I will be there
Eiledon, my dream is there
Eiledon, Eiledon, Eiledon, Eiledon
So let us soar up with the eagles
In wild country among the deer
And wake the wolf in every city
And reckoning is drawing near
Eiledon, I will be there
Eiledon, my dream is there Eiledon
And here is strength for us to find
To turn the old to new
And wipe our eyes of misty years
And see the future through

In 2013 they joined up with Mike Peters, with whom Stuart had a conversation about taking over if he were gone (so many red flags when we look back) and Derek Forbes from Simple Minds (Tony had retired, Stuarts death weighs heavy on him) as well as Mark's son. and recorded "The Journey". It was a healing project, and as a fan I have to say it worked.

That's the whole playlist hopefully. Again, has to make the walls shake. The mistake people make is listening at too low a volume.

shiat, I'm not going to get anything done today.

How anyone could have missed that is beyond me. From the moment I first heard "In a Big Country" come thundering out of the speakers like charging warhorses, it was obvious that this was a band meant to be played LOUD.

How much were the tickets, could that have been a factor?  I have heard the name Big Country as a band but for the rest....are they bands that mostly tour/play in that area or State or whatever?

Tony  harmonizing with Stuart is one of several things that made BC a great band.

'In a big country' was my head song when I was doing outdoorsy Canuckian things in my youth - skiing, skating, wrestling bears &/or moose, etc.
Now it's that g'damn Jeopardy theme - usually when I'm taking a dump.

If "Seeing Big Country perform in Scotland" isn't on your bucket list, you've failed at life.
