Later in the hearing, Kavanaugh refused to say whether he agreed with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's straightforward statement, made at her 1993 confirmation hearing, that a woman should be treated as "a fully adult human responsible for her own choices," citing the need to observe "judicial independence" numerous times when Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) attempted to extract an answer. Seeing that the line of questioning was leading nowhere, Harris moved on to a simpler inquiry.
"Can you think of any laws that give government the power to make decisions about the male body?" Harris asked.
Kavanaugh appeared stumped, eventually conceding, "I'm not thinking of any right now, Senator."

Another sexist policy fully intended (at the time) to minimise women's participation in military responsibility, ensuring they could not be promoted in the military or elected president.

Fortunately, men who didn't serve bought their way into office, so now military service is irrelevant. The policy still needs to be applied equally or tossed out.

You know, we just had a thread about how nearly half of anti-choicers are women, so I'm not entirely certain how this legally-pointless, retributory, performative crap is going to change those women's minds about anything.

When nearly half the enemy's army is comprised of "traitors" from one's "side", it may be time to consider the possibility that one's conceptualisation of the true battle lines might be mistaken. It is not men vs. women; it is authoritarian assholes vs. everyone else.

For the record, I got snipped with no kids at twenty-five, and it was difficult even for me to have that done. For women, it's even worse.

For the record, Selective Service should not exist because it's f*cked up for the government to control anyone's body.  But if it does exist, it should include all people regardless of their gender.  If some war is so important that we have to resort to conscription, then *everybody* needs to fight.

Oh, that's not even the half of it. Once I was shaved and prepped and up on the table, there was a knock on the door. The doctor had a nursing student come in to observe the procedure.

She was an absolute knockout, if she hadn't gone in to medicine she easily could have been a model. Stunning doesn't even begin to describe her. The second she walked in, I was genuinely concerned about the rush of blood flow to my nether regions causing complications. Little did I know that was the least of my concerns.

It was an awkward situation all around. And I'd repeat it in a heartbeat.

I remember when I was about 18, getting examined in a hospital by a nursing student who was only a little older than me, looking at my marfan's syndrome symptoms.  The awkward part was when I was already wearing only underpants, and she was already starting to blush when she said she had to take my pulse from my femoral artery.

Without joking at all, I can say I think this is a fine idea.  When they do the circumcision, which is also an unnecessary operation, they can do a vasectomy.  And when the man becomes old enough and wants to have kids, he can have it reversed.

It would certainly cut down on abortions.

Unless that's not what they really want.

Of course I know that.  But if they really want to keep abortions down, they need to take steps that don't involve punishing women for what men do to them.

Ain't no woman getting pregnant without a dude, who hasn't had a vasectomy, sticking his thingy in her.

They will say this is an absurd argument, by why?  Because it violates the rights of a person without giving them a choice?  Hmmm....

What, exactly, is "bullsh*t"? I genuinely don't understand your objection here.

This isn't some kind of Stockholm syndrome; it's just horrible people whom believe they possess the right to tell others what they may or may not do with their own bodies.

They always make exceptions for themselves, just as do lower-class men who hate those "welfare freeloaders" and vote for Republicans whom proudly wish to destroy any semblance of a social-safety net, yet happily accept disability payments when they become injured.

Selective Service.

Selective service has traditionally been male only, and remains so today, but it is not inherently male only. It could just as easily be applied to both sexes. Moreover, it is not something that literally regulates men's bodies all the time. It is a provision for a situation in which the military needs to expand such as in a time of crisis. Obviously once drafted, a man's body is affected.

Selective service would be more comparable to laws against abortion if young men who were subject to the possibility of the draft were actually prevented from eating unhealthy foods, prevented from getting overweight, required to maintain cardiovascular conditioning, forbidden to drink too much alcohol, and so on.

No, no, no! Forced vasectomies is not a good analogy. Not all testicles can make babies. The law would unfairly affect those people too. You need to have working sperm to make babies.

Allowing people to sue men for masturbating for killing potential life is the proper analogy. Women can masturbate without destroying baby batter so the law targets only biological men capable of producing viable sperm.

If people's body autonomy goes out the window because of some sanctity of life principle, why are we not mandating *men* (and women) to donate blood? We rely on volunteers for a resource that is often scarce in our hospitals. People with rare blood types and universal donors should be compelled to save others.

Why do we need to sign up for organ donation, instead of that being the default? Why should anyone be excepted from mandatory organ donor status? Farking dead men are granted autonomy over their remains, an autonomy given more importance than any lives their spare parts can save. An autonomy that exceeds that given to a living pregnant woman in a red state.
