Officials are reminding people to please be aware of the water conditions any time you swim, and do not swim beyond your comfort level.

Okay, so what WAS the water condition? Hard? Absent? Filled with eels?

Last summer, I hiked to a similar place in NH, on a seriously hot day.  It was one of those "I'm getting old" moments, and I doddered down carefully, step by step, checking my footing at each moment, rather than just jumping in from the easy jumping in point.

All it would take would be one slip on the wet rocks and suddenly, your nice safe planned trajectory is turned into your skull heading for granite.

Indeed. Love the glacial potholes of New England. Love watching (mostly young) idiots launch themselves out and over a 25' wall of granite into a deep cylindrical pool carved by glacial melt water.

Especially love not jumping. I'm a wimp.

Well the first pool is only 5-feet deep and the second is around 8-feet deep. Wonder if he jumped or dived in....

Well, I guess he was surprised when he realized that he was out of his comfort zone.

A guy I went to high school with drowned in liquid feces. His parents went to town while he got out the tractor, cleaned the drop (a trench in a barn floor where cows dook) and backed the wagon full of feces to a collecting pond... for feces. He accidentally backed up the tractor too far and flipped it into the pond on top of him. You really wanted to hope the blunt force trauma killed him but according to the autopsy, no. He drowned. Lungs full of literal shiat.

I'll take the pot hole, thank you.

Water conditions in new England springs are snowmelt icy, deep, fast, still moving boulders, and unpredictable hydraulics.

Water conditions in new England autumns are snowmelt icy, n it as fast, not as deep, not tossing boulders around so much, and you can see where the current will suck you under and pin them between them.

At this time of year the VT swimming holes are still frigid. It wouldn't Surprise me if the water temps were below 50 degrees.

/Quelle Surprise bro

There's a basin in Shelburne that's safe to swim in.  "The Basin" at Franconia Notch State Park, is viewing only, since it will pretty much suck you under and drown you.  Fast moving water, waterfalls, are ... bad.

A lot of dealers are adding enough fentanyl to their potholes to kill a thousand maple syrups.   So I've heard.
