Well, on one side you have a vision of what the Republicans see as their future in a country with less than 50% of the population being white, and knowing that a bunch of those white folks WON'T be voting for them, and then on the other, you see a vision of what things will shake out with a more diverse population that takes their voting power back.

We're only f*cked if we listen to those who are currently invested in mining racial tensions for fun and profit. We start arresting seditious f*cksticks, and actually sentencing them, we can let the rule of law win the 'battle' for hearts and minds.

This mess? This is a temper tantrum from folks who know that the jig is up, and that they've stayed in too long with the Idiot Brigade. They're riding that tiger right now, because it WILL give them more than a few swipes if they leap off, but it's headed for what it thinks is a watering hole, ignoring the fact that crocs and other critters are all around and they have numbers on their side.

The GOP will rebrand itself once it sees it can't get any further with racist f*cksticks. They'll deny that they ever even approached such thugs, and how dare you associate them with such terrible people who were Seekrit Liberals in disguise.

Not quite.  Some Latinos are leaving the Catholic Church and becoming Evangelicals, so naturally they vote Republican.  https://www.deseret.com/2021/8/22/22616566/republican-attempts-to-woo-religious-latinos-democrats-respond-trump-biden-democrats-evangelical

Mounk is a f*cking hack who has spent years inflating every "Oberlin kid says something weird about gender" as the end of the republic and equivalent to a political party actually trying to end the republic. F*ck him.

Those who subscribe to the theory -- many of them White conservatives -- believe a secret group of elites are using non-White immigrants and Black people to intermarry with and "outbreed" White people "until they no longer exist."

My grandmother was 16 years old when the Red Army reached Berlin. Her father, my great grandfather, was an officer in the SS. She married an American soldier and came to America. She was quite racist and vocal. Several times, I heard her say, "Ze black people are eating all the welfare and outbreeding white people."

Yeah, no. I went to integrated schools in a medium size city. I knew better. Loved her, anyway. But Replacement Theory is part of Nazi ideology and should be rejected.

No, we aren't. The state of Georgia is a model of what we should be doing.

The real test is how hard the Biden admin will fight when they have both chambers of Congress for two years. At worse, it'll be like the dog and the car.

Lots of small groups of right and left fighting each other across the country for control of areas.  Starvation and lawlessness rampant outside zones of mutual aid.  Anyone who can afford to fleeing to other countries draining talent and money from a country racked with violence.

It doesn't have to be that way.

We, all of us, can change the future. Yeah, sounds phony, but just try treating everyone you meet with a bit more courtesy and tolerance, and see what happens.

Now, I'm off to sing Kumbaya with a multiethnic crowd. :-)

But seriously, give it a try.

Some progressives may cheer such a projection. But Mounk calls this belief the "most dangerous idea in American politics."
He says it promotes a dystopian future in which White Americans and people of color are reduced to members of "mutually hostile tribes," politicians have little incentive to reach beyond their base, and many Whites panic over the fear of being permanently sidelined.

Sounds like he thinks it would be better for the balance of power to remain the way it is. As long as it isn't wypepo suffering, it's not a dystopia.

Paraphrasing Richard Pryor, "oh my God, it's an epidemic!" means "it's happening to white people, too!"

What we're going to do instead, over and over for the last week, is tell media consumers that half the country agrees with that crazy fark.  Do we suppose that makes it more or less likely that some other crazy fark will decide to emulate him?  The policy of barely talking about these assholes was clearly the correct one, but that doesn't do much for harvesting clicks and ratings.

The other side of the media hemisphere is going to tell you that wokeness/Democrats gave birth to Darrell Brooks, or the NY subway jackass.  Meanwhile:

Interesting study, but I'll bet it won't do much for cable news ratings or social media engagement.

There was a recent story about Tucker Carlson having the highest ratings among young *Democrats*.  I'd never have any idea what that idiot says if it weren't for supposed liberals who think I need to know.  How many of his young Democratic viewers were led over there that way? Only a few million people watch him each night; how many people is he reaching through the Daily Beast, CNN, the Daily Boulder and everyone else who's working emotionalism like a speed bag?

The news sites that talk about him incessantly aren't driving "awareness" for the sake of some positive goal.  They're driving social media engagement by making you angry and afraid.  And they're going to convince the next lunatic that half the country would consider them a hero if they killed a few people.

One of the key indicators of coming instability in a society is a non-integrated minority population, as each subgroup hits about 10% of a local population cultural clashes tend to grow into open conflict.

The incoming population has to integrate into the local population, or you start getting tribal conflicts - think immigrant gang wars from the late 1800s and early 1900s.  This isn't a new thing or a new idea - people need a society to operate in that isn't us and them, it's just "us".

Yep, but then I knew that before reading TFA.

Simply put, you are asking people to grow up, be rational and accepting in a time where education is not promoted, much less valued. Sports ball and "Ow! My Balls!" are far more important, so... don't hold your breath.

I actually RTFA (on Fark?!?!?!  Yes)  And to me it was hopeful.  We aren't doomed, as long as we the people decide that we'd rather work together instead of defaulting to our base tribal instincts.  I truly believe that we can come together as a nation, and beat back this tide of racism that rose after Obama became President.  We'll take two steps forward and one step back, but forward movement is happening.

We need to realize that it's a vocal minority that's causing problems, and that it's a minority that's shrinking every day.  The opportunity to rise past this is ahead of us...we just have to have the courage to meet that challenge.

I'm glad we're talking about replacement theory. It's subtle, but it's an answer to the right's whining about CRT, except CRT is based in reality, whereas replacement theory is just some dumb person's attempt to intellectualize their failures. It's the incel movement going mainstream. Nice job guys. Stacy will still be banging Chad. Becky will still be doing whatever Beckys do. But hey, at least you won't be a virgin anymore!

We are doomed because Republicans want their voters to think they are doomed, and they fall for it, leading to things like January 6 and the Buffalo shooting. I have no idea how racial diversity is supposed to threaten me as a white man, but I have bigger problems than a bunch of Fox News fairy tales. This is like how 9/11 got this country to fark itself over real hard by overreacting to a threat, only this time the threat is nonexistent and its perceived existence is solely the result of a bunch of Republican hype.

It would be messy.

If left vs right, it's also city vs country.

However, where the money is will pay off the sides not to destroy them, or support where their key assets are.

The right will splinter anyway, introduce purity tests, and turn on each other. The country areas will be gun toting, dangerous areas with no real rule of law, only xenophobia keeping the populations in line, and nothing to turn to but drugs.

The cities themselves will be riddled with crime and poverty as the economy tanks and people are told that there's no money for social services while trillions are spent on the war effort and bailing out corporations. Those working for the war corporations and those bailed out by the government will Liev comfortable, middle class lives only touched by the occasional mass shooting.

You probably won't be able to tell the difference.

I spent 4 years thinking that 5 minutes after Trump was out of office, the GOP would toss him down the memory hole harder than they tossed W.

Now I'm not sure that the country survives long enough to see the demographics kill them.
