The billionaires have been both a symptom and a cause of the failures of modern politics since their first appearance on the scene. Ellison is a pretty typical billionaire.

Why you wanna bust on 'ol Hank like that, Subby?
Larry "Tiny Dickhole" Ellison, absolutely, but what did Hank ever do to you?

Regardless, while not surprising I don't think that this tiny nugget of info translates into anything substantial that can be used to prove criminal activity or even legal liability for Oracle's Chief Derp Officer. Or any of hte derps gallery of other folks who were on said call, including Senator Faintingcouch.

A long time ago I met Larry Ellison personally.  He would never remember me of course.

I actually do remember it, because within 3 seconds of meeting, my asshole detector broke the needle.

After having done implementations of most of the major ERPs and SaaS, I don't know how Oracle is still in business and as businesses that purchase these systems become more engaged in social issues (like offering reimbursement to leave Gilead for healthcare) this may put a bigger dent in their systems.

Round him up and forfeit his assets.  Ellison has participated in significant life extending procedures and is rumored to receive parabiotic therapies, so he can handle a 200 year prison term.

I disagree.  They weren't meeting to discuss Election Interference, they were meeting to discuss interfering in an election.  That's about as legal as meeting to plan a kidnapping.

Mr. Ellison has revealed himself as a security risk.  Hard to imagine how participating in a plot to undermine a critical Constitutional process doesn't translate to Breach Of Contract in Oracle's dealings with American government.

Their extortion on Java licensing will only work for so long.  Our company is still paying license fees, but we look to be eliminating that in five years when our applications either go to open source Java or move away from Java altogether.

Holding hearings on that topic should do wonders for the company's stock value.

Be nice if you can just transition to open-source.  Rewriting an entire code base seems like something to be avoided.  Plus, Java is fairly well designed (as compared with C++, and yes I realize that's a pretty low bar).

The fact is, you cannot vote republican and call yourself a patriot, those days are gone.

A person voting a republican into office in America doesn't deserve to live in America; the GOP are "fixing" America to become East Germany for their Russian overlords.

I think that's fundamentally incorrect.  The GOP are "fixing" America to become East Germany for their oligarch overlords.

The middlemen are grifters and crazed fanatics, but the ones driving things behind the scenes are the billionaire class who are unsatisfied having to share the world with everyone else.  They want all the control, all the time, and they're getting there incrementally.

It's not exactly the same as working for Putin.  He's just one (and currently the most visible) of a loose collection of billionaires with aligned interests.  Their cooperation lasts until one of them feels they can take what the other has without any significant losses of their own.

Billionaires have done a lot just by opening their stupid traps to involve themselves in politics to demonstrate everything they can to the rest of us that amassing wealth is wholly separated from intelligence, wisdom, logic and any other virtue.

Prosperity theology is not only religious bunk, it's bunk outside of any religious connotation towards actual substantive measure of value to our society.

We could tax the billionaires out of existence tomorrow and absolutely nothing of value would be lost.

They should of learned from English royalty, but they got high on their own supply.  Sorry ubermensch - you are on the menu.  Nothing personal.  Just a matter of society's survival.

Blathering Idjut: We could tax the billionaires out of existence tomorrow and absolutely nothing of value would be lost.

Too disruptive.  I favor a wealth tax / benefit system that slowly pulls outliers to within a couple of standard deviations of the mean.

Any billionaires who wanted to resist such a scheme utilizing their wealth would have to be shot, of course.  I'm not even kidding about that, since there's little else you could do in short order to prevent them from changing the political landscape with their money.  Even locking them in a dungeon somewhere would just have them working through proxies.
