Eh, no. I enjoy them, but they're not equivalent.

I only really enjoyed a few of TLI's songs/videos.  The rest just seemed to be "We were sooooo stoned when we thought up this in-joke that you have to have been both stoned and there to find it funny" reaching.

they shared more than that - both Herlihy and Higgins are the sons of SNL writing legends.

It's called nepotism, it automatically makes you a "genius."
How about getting work anywhere else where your daddy didn't work?

I was 15 years old when that came out and I thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen.

Hell, I still do 45 years later.

A sign of getting old: I can't understand what Mr Bill is saying because it's too high pitched.

This.

Also lonely island's lettuce was brilliant.

Huh? TLI is pretty far from stoner comedy. I think you're mixing up surreal humor with in jokes.

I was 10 and I laughed until I was sick, and so did my dad.  He'd tried to get me into the Three Stooges and Abbott and Costello because those were his childhood favorites, but it wasn't laughing until he gave up and let me watch SNL and Mork & Mindy with him that we shared a laugh together. Oh and Police Squad, ofc.

It's funny (not haha funny), but I figured the one was Herlihey's son, just because of the age and relatively unusual last name. Didn't realize two were SNL sired

But hey, nepotism can only get you in the door. If you have success once you enter, who'm I to complain? Hell you couldn't watch a LOT of stuff if you cared too much about that sort of thing

I fully expected Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping to be terrible and dumb, but it was a really good movie.  Maybe not quite Spinal Tap-level mockumentary, but only one level down from it.

You weren't 15 years old in 1976 if you are 45 now.

He didn't say he was 45. He said it's been 45 years since he saw that bit. The answer to his age is 60.

/I spent a lot of the last year helping my son with similar word problems.

Unless their "Cut for Time" pieces are going viral, I don't think PDD has been able to get Lonely Island's traction - mostly because they keep getting axed in favor of really lame bits late in the show that feature too much Kyle.

It probably helps that they edit their videos to minimize the number of comedy beats. When the jokes come fast enough, the audience doesn't have time to stop laughing.

When the jokes come too slow... well, I just went back and watched one of the old Herlihy Boy sketches:
