Will Pete Davidson get to slow dance with Lorne tonight?

Pete will bring out Kim.

Kim's ass, meanwhile, will go full Elvis on his TV.

I was just gonna say, Sarah Sherman is a surrealist comic, and so is probably just too advanced for some people

Wow, I'm just here for the joke swap.  And the cold intro, and the monologue.

Those are cannon.

Well, at least Kyle has a future as Half Scoop's photo double for cringe memes like this:

Do they even have to replace them?  Cast was so huge to begin with, just dropping those 4 probably still leaves a plenty large enough cast.

Submitter is too busy sobbing quietly to himself in a corner over the fact that we'll never get to see the epitome of comedy Alec Baldwin on the show again.

Aidy Bryant - I'll miss her on the show. She's been one of my favorite SNL cast members ever. She's always been a reliable and funny performer. I'll definitely look forward to her guest hosting some time in the future.

Michael Che - Who knows if he will return? I'm guessing that he might stay through season 50. He's had a great run as one of the best teams on Weekend Update.

Pete Davidson - He's already been half out the door this whole season so I won't be missing him. I don't think he really did that much for the show.

Mikey Day - He's locked down into the same straight man character now. He's had an okay run, but there doesn't seem to be much more for him to offer. He should probably go.

Chloe Fineman - I think she has untapped potential. Hopefully she will have an opportunity to break out more next season.

Heidi Gardner - I'm predicting that she will be a much bigger presence on the show in the next few seasons. She's funny.

Colin Jost - He and Che have had a solid run, no doubt. I haven't heard any rumors that he wants to leave, so I'm guessing he will stay at least as long as Che does. He also might be the type to stay on as a writer after his Update run is through - or he may be Updates version of Keenan and just stay on indefinitely.

Kate McKinnon - She's had a long run and earned her place as one of the best SNL cast members of all time. But it is time for her to move on.

Alex Moffat - Unfortunately it seems Alex has receded into the background recently. As with Mikey Day, I'm not sure he has much more to offer the show anymore.

Kyle Mooney - I don't hate him like some do, and I think he's done more on the show than I ever expected him to do. He's leaving at the right time, I think.

Ego Nwodim - She's carving out a niche for herself outside just being the straight woman in the scene. I hope she gets some room to stretch a little next season.

Chris Redd - One of the most reliable performers now. He should have a strong season next year and will probably do very well in his post SNL sitcom career.

Cecily Strong - She's one of my favorites and a reliable performer as well, but she's been on the show a long time and it might be okay for her to move on.

Kenan Thompson - Yes, he is as reliable as it gets, but should SNL really be a lifetime job? I like to see the newer cast members get more airtime.

Melissa Villaseñor - I like her a lot and am glad that she's getting more airtime recently. But I think the show never really tapped her potential as a performer and a personality. Hopefully she will stick around a few more years, but I suspect she won't be a long termer.

Bowen Yang - He should be a bigger presence on the show next season and I think is already posed to have a big post SNL career. I'm guessing we will probably see him through season 50.

Aristotle Athari - He seems to be struggling to make his mark. That happens in someone's first year. I don't get his lounge singer character

Andrew Dismukes - I think he's settling in to be the rare funny straight man character with his dry delivery. Hopefully he will have more time to shine next season.

James Austin Johnson - Proving that featured players shouldn't be obligated to virtually sit out their first few seasons, he's made a mark as Trump and Biden whether you like him or not.

Punkie Johnson - She also seems to be struggling to find her place in the show. That's too bad. I think she's been one of the victims of the overcrowded cast.

Sarah Sherman - Right now I think she's poised to be the future of the show. If Che leaves, I'd say she's currently the leading contender to replace him. I have the feeling that last weekend's Baby Monitor sketch was hers, so she's getting tight with some writers too. She's making some impact on the show now, and that doesn't happen often.

Please Don't Destroy - I'm not a fan, but I'm sure they will be back next season. Maybe if they got out of their office they could be another Lonely Island, but so far I don't see that happening.

My issue with him is he does Trump TOO well... at least with Baldwin, it was like a caricature more than actually watching Trump.  JAJ is like watching Trump, and I don't like to actually watch Trump.

dletter: Do they even have to replace them?  Cast was so huge to begin with, just dropping those 4 probably still leaves a plenty large enough cast.

Yeah. I think I said this in a previous SNL thread, but to me it feels like SNL wound up with a huge cast this season because Lorne didn't have a lot of certainty about whether a number of the big names would be coming back, so he had to have more peopled signed than usual to make sure the show wasn't caught shorthanded.  Remember how there was a lot of speculation that Cecily Strong's wine toss in last season's finale was her farewell to the show?

With so many of the big names departing, I'm hoping that this opens up more opportunity for some of the less senior cast members. Heidi Gardner, Chloe Fineman, and Ego Nwodim have all had strong runs, I expect them to fill Kate, Aidy, and Cecily's shoes without a problem.  Punkie Johnson has had some good turns on the show, but has struggled to get onscreen consistently, I hope we get to see more of her.  I think Aristotle Athari has also shown promise.  Andrew Dismukes and Mikey Day are solid, I hope with a smaller cast we get to see if they can do more.

2022-05-21 11:21:24 PM
Colin Jost - He couldn't tell a knock knock joke to his 7 year old nephew without collapsing in laughter at how funny he is. He sucks.

Kate McKinnon - She's brilliant, and has been the majority of what's actually funny on the show for quite a while.

Michael Che posted on his Instagram today & people were replying how sad they are that he's leaving. They didn't notice the fine print.

LAST KYLE MOONEY EPISODE EVER!

Also no more Kate, Aidy, and Pete, and I'll be surprised if Cecily is back next season, but I'm far less happy about that.

Hoping Natasha Lyonne does well. I expect Japanese Breakfast to get about the same reception from Internet Bros that Phoebe Bridgers did.

There's a fine line between surreal and spastic.  Maybe one day she'll find sight of it.

I've always been a fan of Natasha. I am really looking forward to this show, though I have no clue who Japanese Breakfast is. I suppose I could Google them in the next two minutes.
