Why you gotta lump hookers in with fat people?

Or endless local TV ads that are either ambulance-chasing lawyers or hate-filled Repuglican attack ads.

I just killed my live TV plan on Hulu. I really looked at my usage of it over about a month and realized all I'd done was record one documentary, a few episodes of The Twilight Zone, and use cable news as background noise.

I just picked up P+ instead and I'll pocket the rest of the savings. At least that has every episode of TZ that I can watch anytime, and I can also finally see what all the hype around Picard is about.

/And SNW, which had me sold on the trailers alone.

Granted, it didn't last long and was replaced with better devices for streaming, but we haven't had cable since.

this. show me something interesting. HBO and Netflix have more interesting shows than the networks. doesn't feel like the networks are even trying.

Isn't the new hipster thing to not watch video? Not, like, "we watch things on tablets", but "we only read books and listen to vinyl and see movies at a boutique theater that shows authentic reals of film". Ya know,  now that I say that, it sounds nice.

No. They left a long time ago.

I can't remember the last network show I actually watched. Probably the Simpsons after a football game. I couldn't even name a current network show other than the Simpsons. I occasionally watch 60 Minutes, a day later on YouTube.

I wonder if network TV is going to end up like newspaper comics where concepts and franchises which are seemingly banal and forgotten end up being a bizarre spring of baffling anti-zeitgeist that most people won't even notice much less even be able of acknowledging.

I watched Mr. Mayor, it had potential. To this day, I can't believe they got Hannibal on network TV.

Yes, and class action lawsuits, Medicare benefit plans, sad charities, and make-up commercials that last five whole minutes.

That said, a little Google goes a long way.

I would not call cable services "green" in 2002.  Holy frack they were in their twilight years by 2002.

I'm happy to watch on demand tv from broadcasters via their apps, but there's very little in the way of appointment viewing for me. On the plus side, I think that removes a distraction and means I can make better use of my time.

2022-05-21 2:22:27 AM
Hey geniuses why don't you just take some of the shows from your streaming services that people are actually watching and put them on your broadcast networks. Then people might actually watch it.

I always thought that it meant to evoke what you associate with salads. Something fresh and green. So they're saying cable tv had fresh programming back then but the video signal was tinted green.

What people don't recognize is that the steaming channels are highly oversaturated  there's about 50 streaming channels out there If you look hard enough and they all have great prices because they're lacking viewers also mubi has 4 months for 4 days right now for 1.00 a month. It's not just going to be network television that gets killed it's the streamers themselves eventually. There's too much music and games on phone and otherwise. You've given the people way to much to do and most people don't have that much spare time to start off with.

We'll all terribly miss that thing that happens, when you fall asleep on the couch with the tv on, only to wake up to Pat Robertson or some other right wing arsehole claiming the latest hurricane happened because god is mad about gay marriage or whatever.

The networks are scared to air shows where you're completely lost if you miss an episode, and they're probably right since I would guess most old people aren't finding alternatives to live viewing when they miss one.

Like rental units across the country, they will all be bought up by hedge funds, who are not our friends, nor of democracy.

Someone doesn't know their Shakespeare.  NTTAWTT.

"...My salad days, / When I was green in judgment, cold in blood/To say as I said then!" - Cleopatra from Anthony and Cleopatra Act 1 Scene 5

Also helpful to note back then salad could refer to ANY raw vegetable.

The real problem with broadcast TV is that they decided writers were the same as grips.  Grips move equipment around, writers move words around. So it doesn't matter who does what, just get the cheapest available.  And be sure to tell them exactly where you want the stuff moved because as an executive you obviously know better than them.

Which is why despite being a huge Quantum Leap fan I am not looking forward to the new series in the slightest.

I work as a television producer and the only thing I watch on any of our local stations is jeopardy at night. And for that I have an antenna. I don't even have cable or satellite. Everything's off the Roku or I download it. Network TV is dead and just doesn't realize it. And local newscasts are dying rapidly as well

But they're an entertainment network, right?
