Kebab on a roll, somehow I am not impressed.  Also way too much CSB leading up to that.

You want life changing?  Go an hour northeast to Oneonta and hit up Brooks.

Are you sandwich senses tingling?

Why yes, come to think of it, I would love to have an Italian beef sandwich from Portillo's.

Never heard of it before now, but it does sound tasty. I dunno if it was worth wading through the article for, since they were awful short on what the damn things look like. Or what goes into the marinade.

Get me one while you're out.  And like a pint of giardiniera.

First thoughts here as well...never heard of it, and I ended up just heading over to wiki to figure out wtf it was vs diving into all of those words.

It's just Italian salad dressing.  I've been in that area a couple of times for work and tried one of these.  It's fine, but nothing special.

I had to scroll past a lot of bullsh*t to get to the sandwiches.

This never would rate as anything other than leftover fodder. its not gods gift to sandwiches (thats grilled cheese you heathen), its just "how can we use up the last crappy bits of food on the bones?"

At least cincinnati chili is creative you bastards. This sounds more like "I have left over meat I need to cook for lunch tomorrow"

my total fark secret santa sent me spiedie marinade one year. pretty good stuff, actually, but as mentioned above, it's not that far off from using italian dressing as a marinade, and then jazzing it up.

What does a Romulan have to do with a sandwich?

In terms of sandwich senses tingling, a nice grilled bit of ciabatta bread, dijon and mayonnaise mix on both sides of the bread, arugula, rare steak, mushrooms, red onion, and cambozola cheese sounds really good right now.

I'm partial to gyros but I'd give an authentic spiedie a try if I ever happen upon one.

I had to double-check the author's location....Brooklyn NY.  Of course, to residents of NYC, any place that's not NYC is called "upstate."

Binghamton is on the southern border of NY...almost Pennsylvania.  You don't get much LESS upstate than that!

But I have been told regularly that civilization ends and here there be dragons when you leave Long Island. I mean, everything else is practically New Jersey.

Have relatives in Binghamton. Every family get together involving grilling would include bringing chicken marinated spiedies. They are quite good but TFA is pushing a bit hard. Would spend a day at the festival if I were near it, but I'm not.

Spiedies are generally good. That said I recently happened across this take on them and found it to work out a lot better than the two most popular bottled marinades. I think deconstructing the marinade into two parts makes a big difference.
Chicken Spiedies, the marinated meat sandwich that has its own festival.
