I hadn't heard of this.

It's hard to not have high hopes. Has George Miller made any movies that weren't at least pretty good? He's got to have one of the best records of any director.

Coincidentally, both Elba and Swinton were in the running to be the new James Bond.

I guess that all depends on your feelings on Babe: Pig in the City and Happy Feet Two.

I hope there's a scene where she slaps Will Smith out of the genie's body, leaving only Robin Williams.

Movies can suck but be enjoyable just because Tilda Swinton is in them.

Oh, I might not enjoy the whole film but she is always enthralling. The lady just has presence that cannot be contained even by a shiat role.

Tilda Swinton is about the bravest performer currently working.  She takes on any role, in any genre, and owns it.  Straight-up antagonist in Michael Clayton, ancient dowager in Grand Budapest Hotel, the Ancient One in Dr. Strange, a man and a woman in both Suspiria and Orlando -- I've yet to see her flame out.  And Elba is so doggone cool that Sam Jackson might tip his golfing hat to him.  Plus George Miller can tell a great story.  I've got my aisle seat staked out.

Wait, I'm confused. This movie appears to feature no familiar super hero characters. Where are the promotional tie-ins with fast food chains? Which franchise does this belong to?

I spent some time thinking about the three wishes genie thing, and decided that wish number three would be that the genie could be free, as long as he was always my true friend. Since a friend could and might choose to do nice stuff for me without me having to wish for it, and would not do things to hurt me or my friends and family. Wish one would be that the genie would never hurt me or the people that I liked or loved. Wish two would be that the genie be forever kind to everyone, never evil.

Maybe good things would come to me from that, maybe none, but at least nothing bad.  The classic genie stories are always that they are metaphorical IED's designed to punish the greedy, selfish or evil person. So, don't try to out-think that trap to use it for anything; you never deserved it in the first place, and you make or find your own happiness, on your own terms.    Make the trap defuse itself.

Wish 1: "None of this 'careful what you wish for' bullshiat.  Understand the intent of the wish and not the letter of the law.  Don't be a dick."
Wish 2: One really great wish.

"My third wish is for you to forget how many wishes I've made. So, anyway, about that first wish..."

2022-05-20 8:26:55 PM
Read a short story in high school, a guy was called to visit someone he knew in high school, but she was now gorgeous, rich, etc. Her servant turned out to be a demon (or genie, not sure) who granted the typical three wishes. First two went as usual, but on the third, she wished for the demon to be forever completely in love with her.

Being in love with her, the demon could not refuse her future requests.

Any Pie Left: I spent some time thinking about the three wishes genie thing, and decided that wish number three would be that the genie could be free, as long as he was always my true friend.
