They call - though perhaps affectionately - their Corporate Training Facility "Hamburger U"

Grimace molested me there and Ronald just swept it under the McRug.

The thing about drinks not being permitted in the grill area because it's a health code issue is true.  That's why cooks drink out of a Cambro, container so that if the health inspector shows up they can claim it's only there for making sauces.

I went there. I took an elective in Sesame Seed Botany. We grew sesame seeds, right there in the dirt!! Just a big ol'...sesame plant.

I had a job at Burger King when I was 15.

The manager would let us have little Dixie cups of soda from the fountain, and he'd shame you if you drank more than a few in his view. You also weren't allowed to have any food unless you paid for it.

I didn't last long in that place.

My next job was as a dishwasher at a sit down restaurant. They let us drink as much soda as we wanted and we got a free meal each shift.

That was a much better job.

Every place I ever worked at or ran had a drink station where we kept our drinks, covered with lids and a straw, during our shift. It was always away from the food storage, prep, cooking, or plating area to avoid any contamination.

Depending on how the rush was going might be a few hours before you're able to sneak in a drink and then you'd chug the whole thing and refill it. Never had any issues with the health department doing it that way.

I'd drink on the job if I worked there too.

/oh, that's not what they meant?
//that's quite different...
///never mind...

If the profit numbers at a restaurant are significantly affected by free drinks for the workers, that restaurant has a bigger problem.

FTA:

'The boss of a McDonald's restaurant was ridiculed for posting a note about a new 'McRule' about staff drinking on the job, but some people agreed with him - despite the cringey title'

Heh. I know what he means, but it sure doesn't seem like that's what he's saying.

"2 - It should not look like a teenagers room around here with 32 half-empty cups - not only is it unsightly, they get spilled, and attract unwanted pests."

This rings true. My sister-in-law has three teenagers and for some reason, every time they get a drink of whatever, they get a new cup. Then they take a few sips and set the cup down and forget about it. Then they get thirsty again and get another new cup.

After helping her do dishes a few times when visiting, I found 90% of the dishes I'm washing are cups. I asked the kids why they keep doing that and got the predicted answer ("I dunno"). Asking them to stick to one cup goes in one ear and out the other. Finally I hid all the extra cups, leaving them with only a couple each. Immediately my sister in law is like, "where are all the cups?" "I hid them so the kids won't use all of them every day." She made me put them back. Now I'm not sure if the problem is the kids or the sister in law. Probably both.

/get off my lawn and so forth
