Estimates are 25-30 mil was spent on MIL for the incoming class at A&M by "supporters". Its not illegal but it is buying players.  I've heard no estimate for Alabama. I can't wait for the end of the season when the transfer portal opens and see how many jump ship.

No CFB coach from the South should ever try to claim the high ground when it comes to getting 5-star recruit.  They're all dirty.

I know it's a long series but "Paid in Mississippi" breaks the culture down well.

I think 2022 is the point at which sports turned a fœtid green, dried in the sun. and parts of it blew away.

Good.  Players deserve to be paid.  If you'd like to use the word "buy" that would be technically correct, just like the Chicago Bears buy players all the time.

All I know is this should result in that crappy team from Athens having its fake championship ripped away.  The NCAA needs to stand up and say enough is enough with the SEC (my beloved Gators included) making a mockery of the recruiting process, and blatantly throwing money everywhere.  But it'll never happen because the SEC makes sure to kick back just enough to the NCAA.

Ain't just the SEC; just the most prominent.

Again, if Elon Musk really wants to do something troll-worthy: start up a prep league with 4 and 5 star HS recruits.  Cap their salaries at $200K/player/year, let the NFL in on the skin

I mean, if people are willing to fund inferior leagues like the USFL/XFL, imagine having a league filled with star recruits you know you can be on the ground floor with?

Star recruits can get millions now. Why would they play for a league where the salaries are capped at $200k? Might have been a decent idea even 4 years ago, and who knows why no one ever did it, but that league wouldn't attract anyone good to play for it now

I would say counter that by saying I doubt they were getting payed millions before becoming professional.  The legalization of NIL however does change the dynamic.

Also, why keep up the illusion of being in a university "being educated"?  That's a load of BS to begin with.

It pulls in casual and even sports adverse eyeballs and money. There is a reason college football is much more successful than the XFL/USFL and its not because they produce a better on field product.

"Go dig into how God did his deal. You may find out ... a lot of things you don't want to know. We build him up to be the czar of football. Go dig into his past, or anybody's that's ever coached with him. You can find out anything you want to find out, what he does and how he does it. It's despicable."

This could get fun.

I'm sure Apartheid Boy hates black people too much to want to offer players six figures.

Sorry, farkers, your dreaded sportsball isn't going anywhere. I'm sorry your programming abilities didn't make you the big man on campus, but it wasn't the fault of student athletes.

Ahem, "student-athletes," please. Just because others are lacking in integrity doesn't mean that institutions of higher learning such as Ohio State don't care about doing things the right way. Those seeking an education who also just happen to play college football are deserving of your respect and your cooperation would be much appreciated.

College coaches used to routinely rip each other. Then when they started to really get paid, they decided to cool it and just be happy counting their money. It would be funny if the coaches get salty again because the players are getting some of the pie.
