I bought a Niagara recliner for 40 buck's.
Vibrator, heating pad.
Upholstery to sink claws into.

The cats live for it

It purrs, it's warm, it's a scratching post. What's not to love?

Teens in the 70s instinctively knew NOT to sit in a La-Z-boy chair in someone else's living room.
That was the father's throne - to be given  a wide berth & respect unless his daughter offered to give you a beej in it.

We picked up pair of used La-Z-boy recliners and naturally, our newest rescue mutt ripped a couple holes in them. we checked into getting them recovered - it's cheaper to buy new ones. The guy explained that for most chairs he could just put the new fabric over the old, but the clearances on La-Z-boys were such that he would have to remove the old fabric first. Apparently it's harder to do that than apply the new fabric.

Several years ago I got a La-Z-Boy hide-a-bed from a thrift store to use in my gaming area.  It's got the leftover late 70s/early 80s furniture used in the basement game room vibe I was going for.  Dragged it across two states in my move.

About the best $50 I've spent on furniture.  It really was in great shape.  I've upgraded the mattress to a memory foam one that actually makes it somewhat usable.  After all, it was my only guest bed for a period of several years. I replaced the castors last year.  I don't actually have a basement, so all the gaming stuff is up in the loft.

So much shag...that carpet is this longer then the dogs hair

On a side note the person holding the coffee looks like Robert Smith of The Cure

My dad had a green one. One day when I was maybe 6 I was playing with some silly putty and fell asleep; it ended up on the chair underneath me and the heat melted it right into the fabric. I still remember him trying to scrap it out with a knife and being quite angry about it. Never could get it all out.

Jennifer Marlowe (after a backfired attempt to give Herb a makeover): You were right, and I was wrong.  And I want you to remember this, because it's never going to happen again.  Now, I want you to go down to the parking garage, look at all the cars, pick out the seatcovers you like best and wear them home.

In the 70s my parents had a vacation home with shag carpet. Bright red with patches of bright orange, bright pink and bright yellow. It looked like the carpet threw up a hit of acid.

Imagine how smokers' houses smelled, with the shag and the velour Lazy Boy soaking up the fumes for years.

Once when between jobs, I applied for a sales job at a La-Z-Boy store, but got another gig  the same day I applied, so forgot about them.

But then they called.

And kept calling. Apparently they were so short of recruits they were shaking the trees to find applicants.  The guy left me messages, which I didn't return. Which only seemed to intrigue them more, seeing as I was too lazy to cvall them back.

"He's obviously La-Z-Boy material; look how indolent he is!"

They keep calling, raising the salary offer. I don't answer. I'm holding out for a management spot, where I can work from home and not do anything from there either.

Surprised there wasn't a Charles Eames knock-off version.

The belted version that Namath was sitting in is pretty odd...

Apply gentle heat to resoften / melt it and use something absorbent to soak it up.  Then apply a cleaner while it's still semi-liquid.

That's got to weigh more than a Russian tank. Moving fold-out couches is a younger man's sport.

I wanted to get a recliner but the wife won the argument (as usual) so we got this massive farking Laz Boy sectional that has its own zip code - it includes a recliner on one end but it's just not the same.
