I'm afraid to see what's on Miller's laptop. This might have been a bit of intervention, with Levi trying to talk Miller into good sense.

Why did his friend have an AR-15, and what did he use to kill him with?

2022-05-20 7:12:47 AM
I have never owned a gun and even I knew at age 8 not to point guns at people, unloaded or not, unless you were ok with them dying.

"It was an accident," usually applies to spilling liquid, not grabbing a gun, pointing it at a person, and then pulling the trigger.

Criminally negligent homicide sounds right, but it's Wisconsin so he'll walk because finding twelve non-idiots there is a tall order.

A lot of mistakes in one go.

Based on the mug shot, did he resist arrest?

Cops called shortly before 5am on a Sunday?  What was going on that they were up at 4am when the shooting occurred?

Homicide by Negligent Handling of a Dangerous Weapon and Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Firearm

Does Intoxicated Use of a Firearm mean what it sounds like?

Sheriff Kalvin Barrett said that the gun was purchased legally and the tragic incident could have been avoided "with appropriate education and knowledge when handling firearms."

Doesn't sound like lack of education was the issue here.

I wish the press would stop calling these shootings accidents. This is, like all other unintentional shootings, is negligence.

Did shooter not know about location and use of the "safety" switch or is this another gun without a traditional switch like the Glock?

Reminder that even civilian versions of the AR have a big and quite accident-proof safety lever.

To make a bullet come out of an AR and kill someone, it has to have a magazine inserted AND a round put into the chamber by charging a large and purposeful charging handle, then aim it at a human, then manually switch down the safety lever, then pull the trigger (which by default has a pretty stiff trigger on purpose).

This is a string of actions that almost negate the chance of accidents.
This guy did a drunk + "gunz are funny" + point at friend + forget there's a round chambered + select fire mode + pull trigger while aiming at friend.

Negligent homicide, ez.

Drunk at 4 am?  Even at that age, the booze was getting the better of us by 4 am.  I am thinking coke.  The motor is still running pretty hard at 4 with a couple lines of coke.

Yeah, out of all those things, the hard trigger pull is what stands out most to me. It takes some effort to pull that. It's not like  your finger just slips.

Looks like Isaiah Miller found one way of stopping Levi from achieving his dreams.

Nothing like a well regulated militia. No, literally, this is nothing like a well regulated militia.

NYP seems intent on portraying Levi as the all American boy, and Miller's only photo is a mugshot. Cheney was given a second chance, and KKKyle is a national hero. We should just let this guy go now.

1. A weapon is always loaded.
2. Never point a weapon at something you do not intent to destroy.
3. Keep your booger hooker off the bang switch.

I had learned these three simple rules before I was five. I didn't fire my first gun until I was seven but my father and grandfather made sure that I knew guns were not toys and what to do when handling one. This story is sad both for the young man killed and for his friend who in a moment of stupidity killed his friend and will have to live with that for the rest of his life.

"You can say sorry all you want too, but that bullet is never coming back"- RIP Papaw.

Partly because it's so widely adopted. Attracts idiots like the mustang yes, but also like the Honda civic due to price and a practically unlimited aftermarket.

They were NOT mistakes.  They were deliberate actions that had a bad outcome that the perpetrator is wanting to weasel out of.

English is farked up that way.  Was it an accident?  You can look the word up and get yes and no.  Did he shoot his buddy on purpose?  Probably not, which would make it an accident.  Did he do stupid farking shiat that a little kid should know better than to do?  Then that makes it not really an accident.  I know it's meant to be dynamic and all, but sometimes we need more words.  Something new for, "Well it wasn't what you meant to do, but you sure in the hell made it happen you moron."

Yeah, not wrong, sadly. Due to affordability of cheap units, tons of mods, and constant exposure by military cosplay media / culture / rightwingers, it's unfortunately become a staple of idiocy and the far right shooties.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the weapon system as designed for military use. Well, the gov mags suck dog balls and the iron sights aren't the best, but the weapon is fit for purpose for its design. Remember this is a Vietnam era rifle system, and despite revisions is starting to become unfit for military as more enemies have access to cheap armor. [The round loses too much energy on armor, but it wasn't designed for that.]

In the civilian world, if you pony up the dough for a quality precision unit, think $900-$1500, they can be a decent tool for a farmer or rancher, and pretty fun for day trips to the outdoor rifle range.

Problem on the civilian side is the idiots and far right latched onto it and now any fool with $350 can get a trash grade unit and go idiot with it.

/source: carried a gov model for a decade for the military, owned a civilian model
// Idk what the answers are, nor would I pretend to have solutions, but we are seeing the issues now with the "gunz for everybody!" policy. There will forever be legit accidents but dead fellow Americans by negligence or on purpose is just unacceptable.

FTA:

Miller told authorities that he accidentally pulled the trigger of the AR-15 rifle while it was pointed at his friend.

I'm calling bullshait on the accidentally part.
