I hope he still yells "Shuwatch" after each flying kick and retains his Swiss Army knife array of
various rays.

/oh and the voice over of "if his warning light ceases to blink...Ultraman will never rise again"

90% of Shin Godzilla was mocking the ineffective bureaucrats and politicians of the Japanese government.

Ultraman in recent years has been knocking it out of the park.

They simulcast their shows, streaming them across the Asian market, then a week later have the same episode, in HD, up on Youtube with properly localized subtitles for eighteen languages, including English.

They had a major anniversary event where they announced new heroes by bringing in the current crop of heroes and returning legends. Then they had a stage show where the actors gave their transformation calls in English.

They have an AU Manga and Netflix Anime where the Ultramen are more like Metal Heroes than Silver Giants and it's a well-told, consistent story.

They're doing a run of New Generation reboots of the Heisei Trio (Tiga, Dyna and Gaia) which treats the originals as still existing in an alternate universe while telling new stories.

They don't hide their toys behind a absurdly high paywall (Looking at you, Kamen Rider Revice) so everyone can enjoy them.

They, along with Kamen Rider, branched out into the virtual pet/fitness tracker market with branded Vital Braces.

They thanked the people of Malaysia for their patronage by creating an Ultraman specifically for the Malaysian market (Ribut) and then bringing him in for two episodes in Trigger and the Ultra Galaxy Fight Absolutian Trilogy.

And now Shin Ultraman is sweeping the movie theaters and making a new generation of kids just as happy as their parents were the first time they saw Hayata hold up the Beta Capsule and transform.

Once upon a time, a young Troy Baker started his VO career with a lot of anime - in one of his credits: Action Bastard.

"You're telling me that if I glue a misshapen horn to my head, I'll become strong enough to fight a generic brand Godzilla? No, I don't think it's worth all the teasing I'd get from the Cat for such an egregious fashion faux pas."

Seven may be a powerful Ultra, but he's a terrible father/father figure. The dude named his own kid Zero.

Same here, on a DC UHF station. Get high, watch dinosaurs beat their chests, watch Spectreman throw them off cliffs. Great fun.

The only better cheapo sci-fi at that time was when they'd show the Mexican superhero Sanson, who drove a magic sports car, was a professional wrester, and repeatly saved the world from vampire werewolves from outer space by beating them in wrestling matches. Sanson rocked.

Special effects does not ruin movies.

Bad and inappropriate special effects ruins movies.

Well that and bad scripts.

Or incompetent nepotism hired studio execs that can tell the difference, and just pick the "easiest" option (in terms of their own work load) which is normally the wrong one (like always going full CGI, even replacing better practical effects).

It's the bad scripts more than anything else. We can forgive less than great effects if we're enjoying a movie's story and characters, but if we hate the story and/or characters, even the best effects can't save it.

For example, Evil Dead 2 is still a huge fan favorite despite having the lowest of low budget effects. Jupiter Ascending was a massive bomb even though it had top of the line CGI and some gorgeous set design.

I watched the original on our B&W tv back in the early 1970's.  In my mind, Ultraman was always gold.  I was surprised seeing it so many years later and learning that he was red and silver.

Man, when I was a kid I thought Ultraman and Speed Racer were great. Little to no interest in seeing this, though; I'm not big on nostalgia.

It was awesome. Godzilla originally a metaphor for the dangers unleashed by man's use of Atomic Bomb.

In Shin Godzilla, they went back to concept that man was responsible for the giant Lizard coming home to roost, instead of the "protector of the earth"
