Favorite Fantasy: Brutal Legend. If you're a metal-head, you'll dig it. It has the greatest soundtrack ever.

I wish someone would do a really great Conan or Conan-type game. No magic, no spells--just conflict, contact and combat.

I was just a youngin' watching my parents play this together. My mom and dad sat side by side, mom would be mapping on graph paper while my father was behind the keyboard. It is my favorite because it was fun to have parents would would play PC games together, none of my friends had that.

I've mostly been playing Guardians of the Galaxy on gamepass this week.  It's a weird one for me.  It's not a great game, but it does have a fun story and nice graphics and voice acting.  The gameplay is mostly quicktime  events and some light exploring and a strange combat system.

Aside from that I've been finishing my arcade cabinet and messing around with old arcade and console favorites.  The pi running the thing seems to be having some minor power glitches with the controllers, but aside from that its running great.  I have some new cables coming that should fix those issues.  I never had an NES as a kid, so I might try Zelda this weekend to see what the fuss is about.

I think it turned out pretty good.  I'll probably add some vinyl stickers and maybe some LEDs at some point.

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 - Icewind  Dale - Planescape Torment -- all these Infinity Engine ad&d games are my favs.

I'll say that Pathfinder: kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous are coming in a close 5 and 6 as more modern offerings.

And as final runners up - the Gold Box ad&d games - they come in last because while I loved them back in the day, i just can't get into the clunkyness of c64/early dos games anymore. I doubt I'll play them again - but I super loved Death Knights of Krynn once upon a time.

Oh and I still get the urge to play EQ about once a year for a month or so whenever a new progression style server is new.

What I've been playing this week? Not much, just a little bit of the Bounty Hunter story on Star Wars The Old Republic, and finishing off the Fire gym on Pokémon Shield.

I'm barely anywhere on Inquisition, but I thought Dragon Age 2 was a better story than Dragon Age Origins myself. I know it gets a bad rap due to the rushed development cycle, but 2 isn't anywhere near as bad as its reputation.

Combining Wreckfest with Dirt Rally has been very successful. The full contact racing practice led to a relatively easy Masters championship in Rallycross. A little time on Pike's Peak and I should have the Masters sweep.

Favorite fantasy game will always be EQ. Years on the development boards before beta made for a lot of good friends before we even started to play. Meeting them all in 3D as gnomes and barbarians was even better. Great small group game before MMOs became about raising armies.

2022-05-19 12:24:28 PM
Played a bit of Dragon Age: Inquisition and Jurassic World: Evolution (Only like 15 minutes), but haven't really been in the mood for any gaming this week, not sure why. Also, something was up with our connection to the server, so I was only able to play like 10-15 minutes of 7DtD with the Wife.

As for the question:
The Dragon Age games are okay.
I need to get back to the Shadow of Mordor games, at some point.
Would the Legacy of Kain series count for that?

Playing through Jedi: Fallen Order the second time.  Doing the New Game+ just for shiats 'n giggles.  It doesn't do much other than let you keep your cosmetic loot from the previous play through, but that's okay.  Fewer chests to have to loot.

Favourite fantasy games?  I have many.

Just to start with, not to mention the classic Dungeon Hack and Rogue games, the Silmarils Ishar games, Knightmare, etc.

More modern games would include pretty much all the Elder Scrolls games, The Witcher 3 (2 was okay, couldn't get on with the fighting system in 1 at all), Legend of Grimrock I and II (awesome modern throwback homages to classics like Dungeon Master and Knightmare) and others I can't think of right now.

I'm working my way through getting all the achievements in the remastered Chrono Cross.  I have a couple of endings to go.  I was considering doing enough NG+ rounds to get everyone Rainbow weapons, armor, and helmets, but that seems kinda stupid now that I can take easily take down the Time Devourer with only Serge. I did get all of Sprigg's dopplegangs, which I don't think I managed to do when I played in the early 2000s.

Favorite fantasy game would probably be Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.

Fantasy games:

I enjoyed the hell out of Divinity:Original Sin 1 and 2. Did both on couch coop with my wife. Got all but the stupid hard achievements (tactician mode, honor mode) too.

Any recommendations for fantasy RPG couch coop games?

The storyline in DA2 just felt too linear to me compared to the choices in DA:O. Also I hated the return to same caves but you can only access the needed parts each trip. The friendship/rivalry thing never seemed to work (on XBox) for me.

/obvs YMMV

Still chugging along in Elden Ring.

Just crossed the 40 hour mark, killed Rennala and Radahn so I can technically continue the storyline, but I think my next steps are clearing out the things in Limgrave and Lucaria that I was afraid to take on at lower level.

Finally have the stats for my brick hammer, imbued with fire it wrecks crystal/magic enemies in Lucaria. Maybe I can take on the magic dragon at this point, but I foresee many deaths in that attempt.

Thanks to that Epic store link, I can still safely say I never paid for a Borderlands game. Maybe "free" might make me interested in it.

Not much exciting this week as its been a lot of sitting around for appointments, so the portables got a work out. Mostly arcade games though (Double Dragon, Legend of Kage, Phoenix) as they are easy to start & quitting when needed isn't a pain either.

As for the QoTW:

Favorite fantasy game is probably heavily modded Skyrim.

Been playing Civ Vi a lot this week. Got a good game going as the Germans. Americans on one side, Japanese on the other, and Gandhi to the north. Japan launched a surprise war on me early on when they got samurai, and I somehow managed to beat them back long enough for them to declare a white peace (it helped that I got Gandhi involved). Japan then settled in my backyard, and I can't have that. Got gunpowder and launched my own war (piggybacking off the one Gandhi was still fighting), took two of Japan's cities (the one they planted by me, and another to force peace terms). Japan is now my biatch. :D

Meanwhile, America is busy dealing with Kublai Khan (China), Vietnam, and Hungary on the other side. That's a powderkeg waiting to explode in delight.

In Star Citizen news, been tooling around for a bit while i wait for 3.17.1 to drop tomorrow in time for Invictus Launch Week (in-game Navy recruitment drive). ILW lets you check out and rent all the "military" ships from each manufacturer. There's also the Navy fleet that roams to the various orbital stations to show off the Bengal Carrier and Javelin Destroyer. The Jav even docks and you can take a tour of it (which is pretty cool, honestly). Free fly for the whole thing (May 20th-31st) too for anyone interested in checking it out.

Also releasing with 3.17.1 is the RSI Scorpius. My beloved X-wing has finally come home to the verse! :D

That turret on the top is actually manned by your co-pilot. Pressing "S" switches it from a top turret to a bottom turret (there's a rail system it runs on)

I had to do the obligatory "can you zoom through the rings of Port Olisar without going *boom*"

Gauntlet on the Amstrad CPC 464. Used to spend hours playing that with my brothers. I can still remember the feeling of finding a potion.

More recently I'd say it had to be Skyrim. Or Shadow of Mordor. I got it on sale for about £3 and played it solid. I think it's one of the only games I've ever got to 100% on. I got the sequel but haven't actually got round to playing it yet. Haven't played any big games recently.

Not playing anything at all at the moment. Got a new born, very busy. Just saving up all my parent credits for when Victoria 3 is released.
