I made it to episode 5 or 6. Sounds like I made the right call.

Still not sure what the point of Kwan's entire story was. Bokeem Woodbine was absolutely wasted in this series. Even he couldn't save that pointless side plot.

Kwan's sideplot was awful. It was fine when she was with Master Chief, but as soon as she went off on her own it was bad and I couldn't wait for her parts to end. I ended up starting to just fast forward through them. With the benefit of hindsight as soon as Kwan split off from Master Chief I would have totally skipped her subplot scenes entirely.

The rest of the show I think I liked though, overall. I didn't play the games, and don't know the plot, so I don't know what was changed and what wasn't. The production values were good, the actors I thought all did a good job, the plot was coherent and not nearly as sloppy and inconsistent/nonsensical as another famous sci IP has been lately. It was much meaner than I expected, with a lot of moments of some real menace throughout. The issues the characters had with one another made sense in context, and they generally acted in ways that I could see as believable.

And I know this isn't usually mentioned, but I thought the score for the show was very well done.

It was fine.  6-7/10, perfectly watchable sci fi. Pissing off fanbois is just gravy.

Distinct lack of jumping around like a kangaroo to avoid being hit, teabagging, and teenagers screaming racist and homophobic slurs....show was definitely better than the game.

Overall I enjoyed it. Now as for Kwan's sideplot...*siiiigh* they Ezra'd her. By which I mean they went with the "stupid kid who will always make the stupidest decision and get people killed"trope. I feel sorry for the actress who's just doing her job. And I can't believe writers are still doing that shiat at this point.

It's like the watched the previous Halo shows and said "yeah, like that, but bigger budget".

I still play Halo games with a friend, and watched several episodes, but I just don't care about this.
I did enjoy seeing the Covenant and all the gear rendered at extreme high quality compared to the games, but I just don't care about the story at all.

There's a show featuring characters based on the Halo universe.

Same...the side plot was dumb along with most of the show. The only thing I enjoyed was the battle scene from the first episode....after that....::fart noise::

I've only seen the first five episodes, but the only parts that haven't worked have been centered around the planetary rebellion.

I don't remember Halo having a plot. It made that deep of an impression.

I liked it, but they should have ditched Kwan when John did.

Battle scene was episode 5 was excellent.

And then things kept going downhill.

Halo's better than that was.

I couldn't make it thru the first episode.

The first battle was a joke. The civilians weapons did fark all to the aliens, including the truck mounted heavy machine gun... that is until Master Chief starts using them. Then it's all one and two shot kills and the horrible CGI of Master Chief jumping around was absolutly cringe worthy.

I didn't make it past that.

You already finished it?  Good lord, man. You can't binge it that quickly. You'll pull a muscle.

I still say the bulk of Enterprise S4 was better than any part of Halo.

Ugh, I hate shows like that. I couldn't get into Bad Batch because I knew it was going to happen. Writers need to learn it's not cute or amusing when the adults do things like leave the kid unattended with the keys still in the starship ignition. If the conflict of your episode relies on an unattended child doing something stupid and/or saving the day, 99% of the time, you've written a stupid episode.

So far I've seen the Enhanced plot, the Romulan plot (good Andorian development), and the Orion slave girls.   The Trip/T'pol subplot is surprisingly well handled.  I have not watched the whole season just yet.

And I skipped the first three Nazi episodes and at least one other episode that looked particularly bad.

I will give what I watched a mark of 'decent'.  Still typically Star Trek predictable though.

It's not going to blow you away or anything, but it's overall much better than seasons 1-3. The Mirror Universe episodes are great. Feel free to jump to those at any time since they have zero connection to the rest of the season.

Well since ya'll are talking Trek...

This week I made my wife watch her first ever episodes of TNG. I've been going through some of the best stuff from seasons 2 and 3 so far. She's not a nerd, she was a jock actually (college lacrosse). And..... she really likes it. She told me she understands why I was so into it, now. And there's a lot of, "Awwwww - Data!"  lol

It was one of the show runners pet ideas that the next show runner hated.

What is up with these streaming series and not keeping show runners? I think the only Star Trek show to keep one for more than a season in the cartoon

when you are not that smart, you can't write people doing smart things, because smart is complicated. And probably takes longer to figure out and I think a lot of these series are rushed out as fast as possible since reruns aren't a thing any longer

It really feels like no one paid any attention to Kwan's dream sequence where she saw the well with her ancestors when talking about it being a portal and a little drone guy that looks a lot like 343 Guilty Spark. NO conversation about Kwan's shiatty story has included this.  To me, this "well portal" is directly connected to the Halo and is something MasterCortanaChief is going to be going to in season 2.

Also, it looks like we're going to be getting the Master Chief we expect now that Cortana is controlling his body.

The show is mostly good overall.

Looks at my post from last weeks halo thread...

Yeah I paid attention.

I hope we get chief chief back

Kwan's plot served to show the human government wasn't all it was cracked up to be, as well as expose Masterchief to his own humanity. I suspect Kwan and Space Chapelle will return next season to bring that ploi arc all back in.

Halo was fine. Don't go into any series with expectations, and you won't be disappointed.

That portal thing was in the last seconds of the Kwan episode. Could have collapsed her whole subplot down to just a couple scenes and it would have been a lot better. Her character was written as impetuous, whiny, suicidally stupid, and entitled. It was annoying and brought the show to a screeching halt every time it switched to her.

I liked her and Master Chief together though. It's just once she left him to go try and claim ownership of a planet because of who her daddy was that she got insufferable. And even if they somehow kinda probably tied it back to the main plot at the last second, getting there was convoluted and dragged.
